So first comment, I would like to thank all the people who motivated us on our other prod's page. You guys were right, we did better, and by far. This prod was made in 7 weeks with the current engine. We will expand and we now have 12 months again, and this time we do not have to start from scratch again. I can only hope we will do better next time!

Small remark, this demo crashes on ATi cards due to a shader compilation error. We were too drunk and lazy to fix it before submitting but we will provide a fix later on. Also, our webpage www.edgeofpanic.nl / .eu will get some content soon :P We heard some people tried to contact us which was virtually impossible :D

Hey Ramon, it was you outside!

The first tunnel you see is created by me, I am proud about it! Look how it moves in sync with the music, on the kick and snare! Yeah!
"about it" -> "of it" ..
I enjoyed this.

Ah yes our second demo, it was a lot better then our first production except the music, we had to use an old track Davizion and me made years ago due to something with time pressure, so it does not reflect our music skills as they are now ( a lot better)

One thing that did puzzle me is that the basslines in the buddha scenes where not ground shaking on the party's PA system, odd i tested it on many different audio setup's and there it did shake the ground.

On to the next production and we'll try to do a lot better again.
Thx to all the people that voted for us and liked our demo.

Pretty cool for a new group.. i really like the attitude to tell people where you learned from.. it's a funny thing to read NeHe on bigscreen but yeah that's the way it goes.. looking forward to your next prod.. btw.. music was nice! :)

BlackStar: YOU can't :) Only glöperators can do this. I fixed it for you. In the future you have to post your request in the "fix-me-beautiful"-thread.

Nice little demo btw... some scenes were a bit too much 90's :)

ltk_tscc : Thanks for the edit and will submit to proper thread next time ;)
Yup, we are a demogroup from the 90s era, we started in 1999, but none of us had the guts to start programming. We were all like 'We cannot ever do something like that'.Then in 2005 I started my computer science education and in 2010 we made a first attempt to write a demo, just to see if we could do it. It wasn't beautiful, but it was a demo. This one we're actually proud of.

I later joined the group when it was already founded as a musician at first, creating many bad-ass hardcore tunes in Fast Tracker v2.09 / Modplug Tracker / other tools such as Jeskola Buzz and FLStudio and shared them with my cousin Mr-Z.

That time I was to young to attend a demo party.. unfortunately. But in 2005 I went to my first demo party: Breakpoint.

Back then Mr-Z also told me a lot about the history of the Amiga. I started to develop interests in computer systems other then the boring gray and often blue looking screens you could find in every household around '99 ..

Then I also started my computer science education in 2006 and graduated in 2010. Now I'm doing my best and trying to help out as much as possible as a coder. I have still a lot to learn ;-)

In our first demo I did a part of the intro and the credits/greetings scene (in which the text fly's by to fast :P).

For this demo I created the events system, I did most part of the intro, the waving tunnel, and the oldskool effects on the screens (not the screens itself).

In our fist demo we used hard-coded events, we didn't have shaders and we didn't have any models. Thanks to Pixelman we have a few very good models!

We now consist of 5 main members: two musicians, two coders and one modeler. But there is also a third coder with very little time.

For the next production I am going to focus more on tooling, we plan to create our own demomaker. This will be a lot of work!! So I expect our next demo to be a hybrid or something.. Some parts are made with our own minimal demo maker and other parts from scratch / by hand again.
Thx, Ramon!
Cube-splitscreen-effect was nice. Didn't like the colors in the first buddha-scene ... grass was way too green. But overall a great show. Looking forward to your next prod.

A big step forward indeed, lads. Looking forward to your next production.

@gaspode

Yeah the grass was a bit too green, looked almost like radio active grass :-)
The first buddha scene was a lot @party code.
Nice to hear you enjoyed our demo!

Some good ideas here. Looking forward to the next production, because this is a lot of progress since the last one. There is a lot of content in this demo. If you narrow it down to fewer effects / scenes putting the focus on visual quality and how it can be used well with the music, I think you can do a lot better. It doesn't have to be super-technical as long as the synch and visuals are great. If you combine this with a strong theme as well with some creative transitions... That's my advice at least.

Keep it up and have fun in the process! :)

Mr-Z : Negated your down thumb!

You have all the elements in place to create good demos. Now focus a bit more on the concept and the presentation and you're almost there :)

I would try to minimize the amount of work on this focusing on what actually makes an impact. We've spent way too much time on making tools and ended up scrapping most of it in the last iteration for something really simple. We've been through the evolution from hardcoding everything to scripts and finally track data using keyframes with various forms of interpolation.

Our system is similar to GNU Rocket except that we have extended it to include tracks for when an effect or scene is active and what the render target of the effect is. We also have a simple debug view showing the status of all FBOs and final result (screen). Also some useful onscreen text showing stuff like FPS, number of draw calls etc.

The buhda scenes were very nice

Thx guys!

And thx for the advice enex! The idea is to make tools for things where getting tired of doing hardcoded all the time, so making it ourselves easier step by step.

In the end it would be cool if for example our musicians can also make some effects without having to go through all the pain :-)
it's ugly, but it's dutch! (apparently!)

a bit dodgy on some levels but the effort shows and it doesn't get boring. :)

good start.
now use what you´ve got, extend it on-demand, dont start too late and use a lot of time on pimping ;)

@hArDy
Already started, we have some ideas now, the music is also being worked on by Davizion and me.
Soundtrack will be lot's and lot's better this time and so will the gfx and presentation.
Less scenes more coherent and a theme.
Thx for the comment.

The enthusiasm alone would earn you this thumb ;) I actually liked alot of the ideas, and I'm sure you've spent countless hours getting everything to run as smooth as this. I'm not too huge fan of the music, but it seems you're already improving on that part. Really impressive effort and I'm sure we'll be seing more to you in the future. Keep it up :D

I quite enjoyed this, the first part more than the second. The "cube tunnel" is my favorite, looks really cool. There are some other nice effects/sync as well and the music is OK even though I don't like it that much. Solid thumb up! :)

It crashes and in the fshaders file it created it says :
Fragment shader compilation failure!
assets/shaders/st_11_plasmatic_texture.frag

In the vshaders file it says:
Vertex shader compilation failure!

assets/shaders/st_02_plasmacube.vert

I'm using Windows 10 64bit with GTX 960M (laptop)
