Very nice to see MJJ Prod again.
I like the fast mp3-player on a standard Atari STE :)

It is IMPOSSIBLE to do MP3 on Atari STe.
But tobé didn't know, so HE MADE IT!

Bien joué, tobé! :)

By chance, there's a 6khz mode in the STe !
Maybe it can't reach 8khz on a 2mb machine, i'll just fix the very bad precision of the frequencies increments :)

Grimmy:
30 frequencies are extracted from the original song via spectrum analysis, every 1/50s, and are generated and mixed together at runtime. All the mixing is done in 16 bits for accuracy and the result is converted to 8 bits. Lots of rounding everywhere to avoid noise, etc. At the end the coeffs are packed but there's room for improvements at this stage because i didn't have time (read: i was too drunk) to try to reduce the entropy and to select the best packing algo. In this demo, they are just packed with the executable by upx.
The quality could be better with 2mb+ of memory, so i'll release another sample with better quality and a music with drums :)

what is this all about exactly ? A MP3 player for STe? If so congrats for the heavy code but otherwise this is nothing but a gadget :)

So now there should be released a player similar to Winamp + convertor for PC (Wav to "sort of mp3 for ste").
For 4Mb machines.
It would be awsome. And possible to do, I assume.
rulez added on the 2011-06-07 09:48:41 by johny johny
yes, since i also coded a video player for STe, i'm going to make a full media player for ST :D
added on the 2011-06-07 09:59:22 by tobé tobé
That would be FANTASTIC.
With 4Mb ST Ram it should be possible to buffer even biggers file on regular satandisk (that isn't as fast as others). I think.

It wasn't exactly clear what this is about during the compo, but seeing the filesize sort of explained it. The idea is great.
