Extremely impressive work! Playing on the pirate clone of the NES(Famicom to be more exact) was a large part of my childhood and hearing some very nice NES tunes on the C64 in very good quality impressed me very much!

+5 for awesome
-1 for musicdisk (sorry, I don't usually vote on 'em see)
+5 for sticking it to the Consolers
+1 for taste in music

Final score of +10!

I'm giving away the Big thumbs tonight!

Cool stuff. Now there are NSF players for the NES, SNES, TurboGrafx and C64.. Atari XL is next? :P

Some of the tunes obviously suit the SID better than others. The songs from Megaman 1 & 2 and Legend of Zelda sound pretty good. The Silver Surfer song otoh didn't turn out so good on the SID (I used resid-fp in winvice 2.1).
And I missed the noise channel quite a lot in some of the songs, though I understand from a technical point of view why it has been left out.

guys, did you write a tool to convert the tunes ?
sounds like the real deal to me.

if not, it's ultra impressive !

if you did: cool deed anyway :)

The Zelda and MegaMan tunes are also some of my all-time favourites ;)

(+ a very good selection, all of the tunes totally rock!)

While this is a nice idea I was extremely disappointed that all of Ilmarque's NES tunes sound horrible after the conversion, so that really shows the emulation is lacking many of the finer quirks and features of the "simple" 2A03 soundchip. All this only makes the text proclaiming the emulation easy sound hollow and pompous.

I do agree that the included tunes seem to play correctly 90-95% of the time, but in no way is this converter usable for any meaning stuff, it is just a semi-clever hack.

I just expected.it to be a lot better and for the creator: next time, do your research properly before writing your close-minded platform fanboy bullshit.

Considering the fact that most of NES tunes sound horrible even before the conversion, this is not that bad.

This sounds better than the previous C64 NSF player (NES SID Player), but it's still far from a good 2A03 emulation.

They're not conversions. The "converter" just reorders the NSF data according to the banking specified in the header, then compresses the data and combines it with the c64 player binary.

I am not sure how good these sound compared to the original but I like the interface and some of the music rules.
