Terrible sound stuttering on a Athlon64 3000+ quite pretty

tried everything i could to run this, didnt wanna mess up your prod page so asked on irc first but seems some others having some problems there also, so i guess i should post a bug report of some kind...

Running the BAT file launches console window which exits in like 0.1 seconds then nothing happens... running the JAR file directly gives this error:

BB Image

Some details on my Setup:

Java Standard Edition Version 6 Update 7 (build 1.6.0_07-b06)

Vista x64 SP1 , GForce 7800.

Just ok.

nice. i would have preferred the font to be single color wires like the rest
added on the 2008-07-27 13:56:23 by hollowman hollowman
hollowman: i think it would have been less readable (which is annoying for an invitro ;)

nice effect and works as invitation

pretty nice! good to see that trace left the coding to mr.doob cause trace is a horrible coder! a bit uneventful for a single-effect demo, however; some more things "going on" couldnt have hurt, imho.

cool vectrex invitro

Keito: your java executable is not in your path. Edit the bat file and replace "java" with the full path to your java.exe in double-quotes. Mine was in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\java.exe, yours will be somewhere similar.

Does not seem to update the screen properly under Ubuntu 8.04

java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode)

It does update the screen when I switch to another desktop and back. Is there a way to run this windowed?

I quite like this. It´s like Vectrex and looks neat =)
rulez added on the 2008-07-28 13:42:22 by Optimus Optimus
Same as bruce but I get no sound.
parapete: I had that too, but after I closed all programs that used the sound device the sound worked for me.

Pretty good - runs fine under OSX (I just have to copy/paste the contents of the .sh file into Terminal :). I didn't really like the music that much, but the rest was entertaining enough once the "globe" exploded :)

Additionally: I got this when I tried to run it at home:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Cannot change display mode
at java.awt.GraphicsDevice.setDisplayMode(GraphicsDevice.java:338)
at sun.awt.X11GraphicsDevice.setDisplayMode(X11GraphicsDevice.java:348)
at MainWindow.start(MainWindow.java:54)
at MainWindow.main(MainWindow.java:34)

I believe I disallow X to change the display resolution.

nice but it seems that i got weird sound artifacts :(
Just got home finally.

@hollowman: As Zest said, the font was way less readable with 1 pixel line width.

@bruce: I'll take a look on all these issues, I developed the prod on ubuntu, but on the party place used windows and added the fullscreen code on the very last minute so I may have broken something on th process. I'll update the zip in some days with some changes on the prod and with antialias (which I didn't know how to add before).

No idea about the sound artifacts :( I'll have to find a machine that does that. Is it on Windows?

oh, btw.. I think we'll start using the slogan "We're last, so why try harder?" :D I'll see if I can release something at ASM and do 5 last positions in a row.

Quite nice, especially the part with the ray creating the outer sphere. Maybe you should've played with the source point a bit, since the ray has a weird 2D look.
Music & overall design are also nice. Congrats for creating the whole package by yourself :)

works great as invtro
go figure it reminds me of uplink/defcon/darwinia which I like a lot :D

I've updated the zip.

+ If the system doesn't allow resolution change, it doesn't try to do it, it will resize the window to the user's resolution (ie 1920x1200). I'll add a resolution selector + windowed or not on the next prods... Anyway, it works on Ubuntu now.

+ Hidden mouse cursor.

+ I've updated the OGG player, I wonder if this fixes the "Terrible sound stuttering" issue.

- Fucked up the sync probably, I'll work on that next.

Any feedback would be great.

it seems i get the same error baz reported, aka sound stuttering like mad during most of the demo. sometimes the sound seems to work ok for a few seconds, then goes back to stuttering again.

Ok, yet another version. Only offline version has changed.

I've added a small setup panel for choosing the resolution and fullscreen/windowed before the demo. I should be able to guess the aspect ratio of your screen so no more dropdowns and options need to be there. Hopefully there won't be more issues on this part.

Next thing is the audioplayer... which includes sync and the athlon64 problem.

Wtf happened to my thumb? :|

Some parties have no invitation. But this invitation had no party :(

Thumb up for a great one man army invitation...

Even if someone that likes java so much to code demos with it should receive an auto thumb down :P

I don't really like java that much, the party where I was supposed to release this prod (inspire) included java prods in the demo compo. As I'm used to Actionscript I thought it was going to be easier to learn Java than C.
