Sierpinski is back !!!

It's just a fractal... 2D... so, why is it so huge? Because of the music... it's in WAV filetype... This fractal was made with DarkBasic, and is the first prod I add to here (well, I tried to add it before, but I failed... lol). I hope to send soon a 3d demo.

I put it as a intro because I don't consider it a demo... altough it's not an intro, too!

Well, it's curious, and the music is cool, I think... I did all the work in about half an hour ( music, too!!! ).

I hope you enjouy it.

are you mad !?! an "intro" in 12mb ?!

DIE!!!

Well, it should be a demo, but doesn't fit in there, too. So, what do you think it is ?
added on the 2002-10-04 01:22:45 by byos byos
It's not really even scene related.. well it is.. sort of, I think it's kinda cool, but I've also seen this same 'sierpinski' you call it, done in realtime in 3d a while ago :)

Sorry, but I'm not going to watch an intro which is not an intro.
I think this is the first time I thumb down a production without actually watching it.

Make cool shock for the proletarian brain!!

You know, the veterans of pouet and the scene, just in general, don't have to be elitist assholes. Yes, the scene is a means of gathering the "elite", but those "elite" won't always exist if you don't inspire outsiders to at least try. Give this guy a break, even if it's not that great. Keep trying, man.

have you read the line i quoted? a little effort isn't too much to ask now is it?

music in WAV format? at least you could have used MP3 - 12mb is way too much. (btw, according to the usual definition, an intro is something in the 64-80k range.)

Don't take me as an elite-wannabe asshole, but I don't see anything really brainshocking in this. Well, it pushes hardware to its limits, at least my 56k modem...

It's weird, I have to download 12MB of 3 separated rar files but still. They show me CRC error check. For one moment I thought I should rename the two files to R00 and R01 but it didn't worked (Except if I haven't found the right order of which file to rename with what, pfff). I see just a screenshot of a sierpinski and the music in WAV? I know it's a newbie production but so bad??? I am sorry for the thumbing down..

P.S. I remember my first newbie production, the poor freak, where I was giving the quickbasic 1.1 compiler along because I could never compile it as EXE (Memory problems, big arrays). I told them to run it through the compiler and few stuff were preety loosy and slow this way. Also, inside the zip I remember that I have forgotten pkzip.exe =))) for onetime I was scared cause I had a virus and thought that the pkzip.exe I gave could have a virus too, but fortunatelly not ;) I also remember that that day I went into csipd and opened a thread asking from people to download my demo =) it's crazy! But at least I didn't forced them to download 12MB for something that not runs and doesn't deserve so much waste of time. (The quickbasic compiler was only adding +100kb to the demo which was even smaller as I remember..)

download the broken RAR file[s] again. This happened to me (bad CRC) and re-downloading the broken file fixed it.

errors introduced by the download itself? that hasn't happened to me since the dayss of the acoustic coupler.

i guess the webserver made a desperate subversive attempt to save the world from this demo :D

That´s what Xtent says about the comments gived to his prod, Scorpio :

"thanks, I notice your comments are always constructive cD_ :)"

That's what says here, in my prod:

"Sorry, but I'm not going to watch an intro which is not an intro.
I think this is the first time I thumb down a production without actually watching it"

What the fuck?

The most of the people that added a bad... no, a catastrophic comment here dindn´t ever add a prod.
Let me tell you, before doing this prod, my last program was over an MSX2 about 10 years before.
I am on the scene since 3 weeks, and the only coding I did was creating very little applications with Visual Basic 6. Since I am on the scene, my interest on coding has increased highly, watching how great groups like Panorama, farbrausch, haujobb or critical mass do it.
Yeah, last saturday I bought a C/C++ coding book... I want to scratch the stars, but first let me pass through all the steps. And as I must work a lot of hours, I have not much freetime to code. But, well, if I´m not able to doing an astonishing, awesome and powerfull megaeffect, you are not interested on it.
Optimus, I NEVER FORCED NOBODY to download my prod. If someone complain because of it, it's his problem. You can see how much time it will take, and also can see the screenshot for to decide if it deserves that time.
Superpleck, I think that writting about 15 lines of code (yeah! 15 lines of code!) and creating a simple track with MUSIC 2000 can take perfectly 30 mins. Must I remember that THIS IS NOT A SUPERPERFECTULTRAMODERN 3D EFFECT DEMO?
As I wrote at the beginning, IT´S JUST A FUCKING 2D FRACTAL.
Yeah, 13 megs... and almost the 13 because music is in WAV filetype. Sorry DARK BASIC because doesn't recognise MP3 music.

13 mb----> music
500 kb --> the rest

Well, it´s late and I´m tired... I want to go to bed, but I can say you all that I´ll go on on the scene... if you like it and if you don´t.

Firstly, that's a double negative, which means you have forced someone. (Presumably by gunpoint??) Secondly, when downloading a production categorized as an intro, it's generally expected the file will be somewhere around 64K in size.

"The most of the people that added a bad... no, a catastrophic comment here dindn´t ever add a prod."

most movie critics have never directed a movie. most journalists who write about politics have never ruled a country.

that's a moot point after all... the question is how well-founded and how constructive their criticism is. i agree that some people on pouet are rude and/or plain stupid. you can easily get offended by this if you're new to the scene.

BUT: if you want positive feedback, you do have to invest a little effort. everyone has to do that. pros and beginners alike. you wouldn't play the piano in front of an audience after rehearsing for only half an hour, would you?

there are very easy-to-use mp3 player libraries out there (try bass.dll), so it is not unreasonable to expect you to convert your music to mp3 before releasing the intro. it would have shrunk down to around 1 mb and saved you a few negative comments.

just my 2p... good luck for your further ventures in the scene, byos

Have just seen. Can't hear any sound, don't know why. But why are the dots of the serpinski beeing drawn so slow? I remember I had coded a simple sierpinski algorithm in quickbasic and it was drawing much faster.

It's a good thing byos, that you are determined to go on in the scene, no matter our comments. I am curious about your next prod!
added on the 2002-10-06 15:26:16 by Optimus Optimus
well, I hope to add something better soon, but first I must learn how to manage bass.dll, as said jazzman, using C++... where can I find the instructions?
Believe it, Optimus... I won't leave the scene! I like it too much... and hope to be useful soon!! lol
see you all soon, brothers

I know it's quite old...

What the fuck?

I'll elaborate:

An intro is supposed to something smaller than 64k, a demos can be larger.
Some people, when they expect something downloadable in few seconds and find something 200 times bigger tend to get annoyed.

Am I constructive enough, now ?
added on the 2002-11-03 18:25:23 by pan pan
Yes, pan, you were very constructive. It's my fault, it's not an intro, it should be a demo (it would be useful for minimalanimal demos, lol).
btw, NOT try to download it, it doesn't works any more... problems with the old server.
Although it didn't deserved the download... Hope to bring something nice soon ^^
