a bit slow (P4-3Ghz), maybe a lo res version? but rlz
It's terrible slow here.
Unimpressive.
Real slow using 70-80% cpu on the compatible version and like 1fps on the party version using 50% cpu.
I have core 2 duo e6600 w/ X1600PRO 512mb.

slow as hell...
I generally like seeing raytracers, but that was just too slow and boring. Take a look at some other prods with RT like heaven 7 to get more ideas on what to do with it and how perhaps? And use a faster rendering method like the one on H7 (can't remember the name of the technique, but a common one is to render in very low res (maybe 16x16 pixel blocks), and subdivide blocks that have different coloured corners so you end up only rendering the bits where there's something to render. Makes more sense than raytracing every pixel of a big patch of grey..
Shiny, but Jeezus it's slow.
psonice: adaptive sub-sampling. And you can interpolate on the U,V,W,I, ... and subdvide based on the object, shadow, highlight, reflection, ...

a pitty, couldn't watch it on my system
Thanks p01, that's the one. Didn't think there were so many ways to do it.. guess it makes sense though. Are shadow/highlight/etc. commonly rendered separately and combined at the end then? I can see that perhaps having some advantages.
Also, to the coder of this one.. how about threading the renderer? I have 3 CPUs going idle at the moment, it would probably run pretty smooth if you just split the screen into 4 and used 4 threads.

1 or 2 FPS max :/
it's cool
nice idea, bad execution (slow, boring)
not too interesting and definitely too slow! this could be done a lot faster, even on amiga :D
OK, but some more scenes would be nice.
Multithreading in 4k? Pure luxury, hey, this one doesn´t even create a real window (as most other 4k omit as well)!

so get us a video :-)
Real-time raytracing at 1 FPS. Nice... maybe next century :)
there's a reason why this is so "slow", as it's not just your standard sphere but rather some metaball-stuff. apart from that it's also super-boring, so piggie.
Slooooooooooooooooooooooooow! :\
nice effort anyway :)
nice effort anyway :)
Slow..
this is damn slow. otherwise ok.
really slow
is ok
I still think this should have won over our last minute invitro! A full software raytracer with blobs and synthcode in 4k is certainly an impressive feat. Especially without any 3D accelleration used :-)
well i like it, the intro is meant to be slow paced, and as for the party-version being slow: thats because its size optimized. (TS is correct, doesn't create a real window in the 4k version : which is actually what slows this prod down the most!) I'm not sure why your core 2 duo e6600 is getting 1 fps, since the compatible version runs at about 5-6 fps on my AMD 2000+.
the reason h7 is so much faster is because its doing adaptive sub-sampling and runs at a much lower resolution.
this intro wasn't made for todays pc's it was made for tomorrows. although i figure anyone with a quad 4 gighz machine should be getting a nice 20 fps....

rulez!
Great raycasting... looks so ... white and clean! :D
P.S.: Spewk it is not.
video anyone ?
too slow for that "simple" scene
Ouch !!!
Slide show for me...

Either learn to optmize your code or at least how to fake so that your intros don't need 100 spf... Plus, what src said. Way too slow to be enjoyable thus the thumb goes down.
it's a cool concept and a big feat for 4k. I look forwards to it in a few years (when my compy catches up)
unfortunately way too slow but nice tech so it gets a pig.
