Well, it runs fine here in Vice 1.9, maybe you have a corrupted version or failed to activate "True Drive Emulation" and deactivate the virtual device traps.
The demo is actually quite nice for 1992, but it won't really make your jaws drop in 2002.

Quite hard to get it to run in an emulator, at least vice1.9 and ccs64 fail to continue after the switch-disk-side part.
