I'm not really happy with all those benchmarks from companies mixed together with "real" demos. Can we have an extra "benchmark" type for those?

Diz SUXX !!! I waiting for another sucker who will submit "Sandra 2000 bench"
I was expecting more from 'benchmarking' software. The textures are ugly and so damn small. They look super tiled and amateurish. Plus the music bugged on my system in a strange way I've never heard before. (Chipmunk style!)
thom, you're kidding? "so damn small"... it's 97, man, voodoo1s had only 2mb of texture memory... (one thing i didnt like: the 2nd reality music remix.. the original actually sounded better)
Oh come on. There's way better scene productions from 97. Sure, they use software rendering, but so what?
Judge a demo on how pleasing it is to yourself, not on it's age. This simply wasn't pleasing to me. I couldn't care less about the size of Voodoo texture memory. It's irrelevant.
I've been watching demos since '89 and there's plenty of better stuff than this.

ok
canonball: sucker?!
thom: a software 'demo' to benchmark 3d hardware accelerators would not make too much sense, now, would it... :-) Maybe your real problem is that this should not be on pouet, but that's another story.
To second reptile's answer, this was out to benchmark 3d cards like voodoo1/2, nvidia riva 128, rendition verite 1000, ati rage 3d pro etc. The video ram on those babies was 8mb max (for the voodoos and the riva128 if I recall). Finally, I think it contains a small benchmark to stress the agp bus by using textures up to (brace yourself) 64mb. So there you go :-)

speaking for MPiRE^(ex)remedy: rubbish :)
k.
it's ok-ish
moT: You misunderstood. The 'better' demos from '97 used software rendering. I wasn't claim *this* demo was anything other than hardware rendering.
The end part's cool. I liked Second Reality better of course, which isn't too surprising since it had more of an emphasis on being good, rather than showing off and/or benchmarking 3D hardware.
In fairness, I'd give this a thumb up if it wasn't benchmarking software, since I tend to give a thumb up to any prod that has at least one cool thing that I find a bit unique.. so here.. :)
voodoo1 power!
It was very cool to watch this one, back then...
If someone posts the other remaining 3dMark demos, he will easilly get more glops. Bored to do myself, cause I gotta code a demo..
Some scenes are too close to Second Reality, others are too far away from it. It's neigther "Unreal ]|[" nor Second Reality 2.5. The guys could have done it better, but a benchmark is no demo, so it is ok for this reason.
This was nice back then (when I wasn't into demos though :P )
I tested this one back with my old computer old ago (p200 + voodoo banshee) and ruled
Back then this one ruled.
Can't textures be "scaled" down till 1x1 (polyfill) ? Including larger textures never heart for big demos! Although scaling object particles might be more difficult, but it's not impossible neither. Ever thought about a demo/intro looking "good" on both P1/P4?
... hurt (sorry :*)
i remember this bitch told me my brand-secondhand riva tnt sucks.
asshole.
yes.
asshole.
yes.
I remember being totally awed by this. Probably the first 3d-accelerated thing I ever saw.
I just loved that whole endscroller part and especially its music.
\o/ remake of that city scene is really lovely and skaven r0x, so nice cover ;)
knorke.
First time I watched this was AMD K6-2 and a Matrox Mystique 220 (orsomethinglikethat). It was buggy as hell but also it blew me away! The graphics were unbelievable for the time. The music still rocks big time (especially PM's Credits-part). But I agree this shouldn't be on Pouët.
Back then I liked this benchmark.
Not bad but as benchmark but that's it.
hey it's from 1997 when the first 3D cards were released. My riva128 worked fine.
Music still rocks, it's a permanent piece in my xm folder. Video is not that impressive, looking back at it now, though it sure was back then when I had just gotten my first 3d accelerator. Looking at it on my 400 MHz laptop without 3d-acc, it at least runs faster than 1 FPS. :D
So, I was gonna give this thing a thumbdown, if it wasn't for the facts that my computer got 3.14 reality marks, and that the spinning thing in the last scene looks a bit like a swastika at times.

Future Crew is not dead! :)
made my voodoo screech and burrrrn! 8)
yeah
download.... link..... BORKEN!!!!
works again.
The music is nice (original is much better though), but hot damn, this has not aged well at all, it's atrocious-looking now ;-)
Was it actually released before Assembly 1997 ? Can somebody point to the right date?
Okay ... visual remix of the second reality scene is cool, the music is not ... otherwise, standard 1997 stuff.
Anyway my first seen demo. At that time i didn't know what demo & scene are. I was very very young.
one of the first I seen
i watched with p1 166mhz (no mmx), s3 virge dx and voodoo2 (12mb)... it's looked very nice in first time :)
I remember visiting the CEBIT here in Hanover in 1998...and this was on EVERY monitor in every hall. It was just amazing to watch a program with demoszene roots getting such a high exposure...
man this goes way back .. as i remember correctly you had to install this to watch it .. instant classic!
oldschool ;)
i remember watching this at the time when i didn't know anything about scene yet. also, could run it on win7 x64, and apparently my system is only 20~40 times faster than baseline p150+s3 virge :/
great remix of Second Reality :D
Doesn't work under win7 x64 :'(
Another piece of history :3
Where did my thumb go?!
oh God this has aged horribly.
A E S T H E T I C
Needs more double sided transparent dual texture with gouraud.
Love it
Ah... Remedy Entertainment. A group full of Finnish programmers who never fail to take the scene to the next level and have an influence on VG's.
