A kinda diferrent Resource, more gfx/design/emotion than effects, still there are few impressive code to see like the Lorenz attractor dots or the fastest(?) filled vector on the C64. I enjoyed watching it for the feelings expressed, the music and the sync too. I will watch it once again now..
p.s. I suggest WinVice for emulator users. On CCS64 it stops loading (as few more other demos lately, I guess Krill's loader doesn't like emulators :) after the part with the Lorenz dots in front of the tree background. In a white screen..

Umhh, resource goes b/w + scene poetry. Not really my cup of demo.

Kind of agree with Tomaes here... It makes me think of Mist by Civitas, which is another one of my non-favorites.
who cares about the "poetry" if you have such a fucking fast vector routine like that? :D

Kinda cute vectorpart and good plotter but don't skip to those s/w style demos... i liked the old ressourcestyle a lot more. I disliked the black border while white screen were shown.
i am all for development but resource is still better at effects than emotions.
we all know that oswald is a great coder, but i hate grey colors and poems.
Looks like some kind of self therapy for Oswald. The vector is not that fucking fast I think - only 3rd frame. Guess I could get it down to atleast 2nd.
a bit short. i liked the vectors. i didnot enjoy the poetry or the graphics. i think there are toooo many of those wired graphics. nice soundtrack. what i liked the best was the music in the note file.
i like it. it succeeds in creating mood and the b/w seems rather stylish to me. the poetry is acceptable and not featuring any in-your-face kind of rhyme, i have seen much worse lines in other demos ;) the vectors, however are nice, still they suffer from ugly update bugs and no, they are not impressively fast imho.
Almost a year ago, when Oswald came up with an idea about putting lyrics and/or concept into a hard-core tehnical demo (not this one, though), I exactly told him what will be the reaction of the C64 scene's concept-lobby. And almost word-by-word, he can read it on Pouet now.
So I just hope that the creators of the demo (especially Oswald) won't regret the heavy weight work which was put in this demo.

Come on... this was never intended to be the next technically-mindblowing demo (you'll have to wait for that :), it's a stylish piece featuring some quality code.
I do think it has a mood and the b/w style fits it, and the "poetry" isn't really that "in-your-face" (as Krill put it) or annoying.

what worries me is that only 15 reactions to a resource demo after so many years means that the c64 scene is practically dead and there are maybe only 20 or so of us left watching c64 demos :(

quite ok demo, wired gfx or not the first pics are nicely brushed up, then it detoriates. quite good flow.. all in all an ok production.

I think its fair to say that there arent enough hangarounds in the c64 scene that do votefilling, commenting etc. just look at the lame charts in recent diskmags, I mean what is the point when number 4 get less than 10pts ? :)

jailbird, yep shame on us for not raising our thumbs and cheering for the heavyweight work invested in converting gfx, reusing the bumpmap effect and showing the new lorentz plotter twice. and i never seem to get the idea that something is good because of the effort and time invested
And all I can do now is shake my head left to right and sigh...

First of all, what's "a demo like this one"? Did you know in advance what it was going to be like? To me, this is another one of those "let's make a concept demo although we don't have anything to say, so we'll just whip up some half-assed scene poetry" demos. Was that what you meant? In that case I guess I could have predicted what some people would say too.
As for appreciating the hard work, I'll have to draw the old Metallica analogy again: Lars Ulrich spent 6 months getting the drum sound right when they were recording the black album. Well, the album still sucks. Does the hard work make it better? IMHO: nope-diddely-dope.

puterman and hollowman: with all due 'sincere' respect, i think labeling any demo as "let's make a concept demo although we don't have anything to say, so we'll just whip up some half-assed scene poetry" simply seems to imply that the authors of that demo are being dishonest. and labeling someone dishonest by looking at his/her demo is i think overconfidence in your ability to make observations and deductions. for this demo i shall repeat, i did not like the poetry and the wired graphics and i liked the vector code and some musics. but i don't think that is enough for me to say that oswald is trying to fool us all by making a concept demo when indeed he did not have anything to say.
in whatever product i think it is always fair to talk about how succesful you think the author has been in achieveing what he was set out to do. so i think it is fair to blame oswald (or me for mist) for not being able to create a coherent atmosphere in the demo and thus failing to make a good concept demo. but i think there is a difference between saying "hey this is an unsuccesful concept demo attempt" and saying "you are trying to sell a demo as a concept demo although you didn't have anything to say really.". i think the critisizers should make sure that their words won't imply a personal insult.
i do agree however that the amount of work put in something does not automatically make it good. nevertheless i personally appreciate hard work even if i do not appreciate the result. so i do think Lars spending 6 months for the drum sound is good (i think the drum sound is indeed the best thing about the black album :) ). but this particular subject is way too philosophical for me and is a matter of personal approach i think.

I'm not saying Oswald is trying to fool us, I'm saying he was trying to use other means of making a good demo than his usual ones, and failed". and the first phrase sounds more agressive than jailbird's to me as well. that was my perception and i also felt personally adressed by that phrase since you earlier posted that plastic kiss reminded you of mist (which honours me by the way :) ). this was the reason of my post. i have nothing against your last post and agree on your view in there. i hope i could express myself clearly and will cause no misunderstandings.

Although we all seem to be one happy family now, I think I should clarify some of my views a bit. First of all, aggressive-sounding comments give more interesting reactions, so I like them, regardless of who writes them.
The "half-assed scene poetry" comment reflects a nagging suspicion of mine, that some people might use what looks like concept demos the "dishonest" way nightlord describes it. But well, I'm not sure if there's anything negative about that anyway... The problem isn't so much that they're bad concept demos, but that they're a very special type of concept demos, almost as if they were made according to a recipe. I guess what the inner circle might want in a case like this is more originality. I can't speak for them, of course, but to me it's pretty simple: I want something that feels fresh in some way, which is why eg. Nivussieni by DKD, Criminal by Civitas, Cologne by Centric, BITLive4Demo by Mahoney and Brief Bursts of Happiness by Creators have found a permanent home in my diskbox, while eg. Plastic Kiss hasn't.
And as for constructive criticism, I just don't agree. Right, there's no reason to be overly mean in general (just like there's no reason to be more nice than the work in question deserves), but I don't agree that the main point of criticism is to assist the creator in improving his/her future works. With 15 or 20 different commenting on a release, there's no reason for everyone to mention all the positive and negative points.

for some unknown reasons this demo made me sad. and that's why i think it's not ordinary stuff.
