Music, models and ideas are good. could have been very nice, but lacks overall design and directing

some okay code-ideas, but the "design" was non-existant.. the truly utterly CRAPPY music gives it a "sucks", sorry.

It's OK for the first prod, but it shouldn't have scored first place! i bet the Sense Amok bribed someone.

Some nice elements for a first prod but this is terribly unfinished.
Waiting for a final.

It 'stops' after the tunnel. Are there any more scenes?

The second last scene does not appear (Radeon 8500)
- Some interesting effects
- Not much design
- Music needs some mastering/remixing, but is otherwise ok
added on the 2004-05-10 00:42:10 by mjz mjz
"needs some mastering/remixing"? dude, no mastering-expert in the world could do something for that track. it needs to be deleted and done all over again, that's what it needs.
added on the 2004-05-10 00:47:46 by gloom gloom
Removing the clipping and making the bass stronger would help nonetheless.

Freezes during the second display of the film strip and ends right after the water in the cup scene on my GFFx5600.. (no scorpion scene)..

The tunnel was quite impressive but I expected to see more stuff done with it. As for the music.. even though I like psychedelic trance.. I have a total hate towards Uplifting Trance, so I'm not the right person to judge it. (however, 5mb for an .xm is a tad hefty)

I'll vote when I see the final version.

I must state my disagreement with the rest, this was definitely the best demo from react, some of the effects were very impressive, and there are also syncing and transitions although it was finished at the party place in a very limited time frame. Thumbs up and my congradulations to outsider for pulling that feat.

It would be quite pleasing if people would use structured exception handling in their demos so they could catch access violations and try to shut the demo down instead of letting it crash -> didnt run here :|

Mhhmm, ok demo. Can't say that I enjoyed it more than the asd one though.

A wonderful demo, outsider did a outstanding job at the partyplace and deserved the first place.

Crashed at ~90% of the precalc at 0x40ad23 with an access violation

way too much codersdesign(tm) .. probably coz of the incoherent stuff, but then again, i guess it was intended to be an effects-demo instead of accentuating on its design.

some nice fx tho, hmmm...we've seen that chrome effect already in lapsus 4 years ago? :)
same crash as boyc
1.2ghz, 256MB, GF3Ti200, WinXP, Yamaha DS-XG, etc. etc. etc.

the music is simply great I can't understand why the others didn't like it... But the demo doesn't work so the rating is on hold
added on the 2004-05-10 19:15:09 by RandomGr RandomGr
Hmm... suddendly it stopped after a blue vase with some kind of distortion effect going on inside. Didn't crash.. but seemed a bit weird. Hope it wasn't the end ;)
added on the 2004-05-10 19:59:59 by Vulture Vulture
I got the crash right after the loading bar under WindowsXP. The solution was to run it under Win98.

The beginning was more polished and nicer than the end. Tunnel effect took so much. I think that the vase with the water is the end. This left me the same feeling, unfinished and I was expecting more.

Uplifting trance works nice for me, I find these weird melodies in trance funny :)

this reminds me my good olds TBL years .The late 90's when we use to watch superstition demos. Somehow i miss this raw feeling tinted with average techno music. This would have surely won Takeover 2000 !

Decent code, lacks design, and the music sucks - and there's no way this is better than the ASD demo!

The second to last effect is missing here as well (GForce3)

Wonderfull prod . I enjoyed the film effect , which had a bit of oldschool cractro and a bit of newschool at the same time , and after a great transition I was amazed by that "pirelli" tunnel. Good flow , awesome transitions , powerfull enough to be this year's winner...

Looking forward to watching the final, complete version. We liked it. The last scene reminds me of the 'Nature sucks' raytraced scorpion !
added on the 2004-05-11 12:23:23 by Navis Navis
sense amok did a good job of putting a prod together. scorpion doesn't run here tho. eagerly waiting for a final version, with a smoother ending.
rulez added on the 2004-05-11 15:21:48 by amv amv
I didn't see any scorpions, it died before that.
One thing I don't like is when objects that's suppose to be solid passes thru each other ( ok, Haujobb uses that alot but that's more like a trademark.). If you instead had made the curve ( the second scene where the film comes up from the thingie ) so it didn't take short-cuts it would look so much better!
The demo itself is ok, nothing special but ok for a first prod. Would be nice to see a final someday!

ok. you may call it house but also dub techno or deep techno :)

stakkato: sorry dude, anyone who classifies music styles with memorable sentiments such as "..dulled basslines sounds like someone farting into a pillow" lost my respect in a heartbeat. :)

..but let's shut up - we're ruining the comments.. :)

Gloom: So, always criticizing me for harshly countering incompetence, and now you're doing the same? :)

This demo well.. Funny, but no more than that.

My vote says it all :-)

Since the music is excellent, why should i care about the genre? :-)

waiting for the final version as it refuses to run here.. I liked it at the party though, especially the transitions... well done sense amok :)

I agree completely with aMUSiC. I too own an FX5600 and I never saw the scorpion scene.

Uplifting trance is not my cup of tea, either. Thor (the musician) may be good at it, and he may also have the pulse of the React visitors (The music on last year's winning demo was also his), but it just doesn't work for me.

Also, I'd like to point out that the coder almost lost his hard disk at the party place due to power outage.

Finally, I'll also save my thumb for the final version :-)

After a decent intro, nothing kept me interested. Too short and too dull. I didn`t see any scorpion scene either?

The music is let down by the awful bass drum.

Oh yeah. I wrote that the cup was the final effect, but I just remembered that there is the scorpion scene too, who doesn't appear on my PC either. Waiting 4 final..

I like this a lot, but seems like it stops right in the middle of the show. Too bad it's 2006 and still no sign of a final version! :\
added on the 2006-06-30 20:52:08 by Aasemoon Aasemoon
not bad till where it stopped.
I actually changed my mind. This is awful and encapsulates all the reasons why our scene is 10-15 years behind modern times. If only people took their time (like, a couple of weeks) working on productions before the party and not during, our demos would be alot more polished and smooth. Hopefully we'll get to see some proper new-skool demos in 2007 in Pixelshow.

I also make a parallel between the philistine 'Amigaaaa' sceners and those who are suckers for 0000ff env-mapped cylinders rotating inside a stolen cubemap.
