mixed smash and smash designs together, thanks
flod arrete t lourd là :)
hm, i don't like the music, the design and the models. not a good production imho.
I like this demo, it's not impressive, but is ok. And the music rocks!
if you really want to see a demo from smash designs, don't waste your time with sleepless, and watch event horizon instead ...
sleepless is simply boring, technically correct, but boring ...

It is a reaaly nice demo, with a good story.
And the music is very good.

MASTERPIECE !!!! This demo is masterpiece. That is all. Very cool story, smooth design super music. Smash designs hits the Mekka Symposium again. More demo-brilliants like this, please....
I liked this demo very much! I know that perhaps some of the gfx are ugly, but I enjoyed it very much and I runned it again and again!
The thing that perhaps rocked me the most to like this demo was the atmospheric music!
But I also liked very much some parts, like the tree with the rays, the voxels, the boat, the models and especially their animations.
Personally I prefered this demo than the two Haujobb demos which were good, but it's boring for me to see 1 of the same sucking demotrends (Lot's of transparency layers again and again..) and I found more interesting to watch the Sleepless demo..
Ohh,. btw.. I will go and check if the other favorite of mine on Mekka&Symbosium is already added in this list, or not.. the Nature Suxx Demo by FAN(TTS/Oxyron(C64) is in FAN, and I wan't to see more demos from you guy!!! Please =)

I LOVE this demo :)
the music is fantastic (especially the stereo version), the code is awesome, the textures could be better but wtf :)
and also great designwise, i love the transition from space to voxels in the final version ...
definitely one of my favorite demos ever ...

good music by a good musician ;) but i think, i must go and get some sleep ;)
eeeeeeiiiyyesss!! kickking-asss piece of ass i had watching this demo. this one has made really big impression on me, gave me courage and enthusiaorgasm that nonaccelerated demos still rule. And the musik.. Well done, keep a mice work guys! Good fuck! (luck)
for the vote ...
A very cool demo with a neat 3d-engine and a kickass soundtrack. Kb has done his miracle again with the sound part.!!!
Nice demo. But does the story have a meaning? Anyway, cool 3dengine! and great music!
i don't like that, it's just a stupid 3d story demo with badly implemented scene-effects and techno music on a mainstream level.
Thamps ap, fur da storie demo..
The music ROCKS!!!!
how could you say that, robotriot? it's so much easier to say 'this is badly implemented' that to tell why or show the way it is and could be. yes, the demo is not downtright twice pragmatic as considered its meaning, but hey, didn't you catch that the sence of it all is that soft rendering still can kick ass narowmind accelerated slush? sleepless is full of enthusiasm and other strong feelings and poor is one who does not feel it.
what's the problem ? o.k, this demo lacks some design but telling it's technically not impressive is lame. just look at the volumetric light effect with the tree. and the music kicks, too.
a nice demo.
a nice demo.
Erm, I finally have to admit that this demo rocks. :) My first reaction after seeing this was quite similar to robotroit's; Not-that-great models, typical euro-dance soundtrack, plus a more or less pointless (and kitschy ;)) story.
BUT, after seeing it for a second time, I noticed that everything fits together very well, the music makes your body move (erm) and the transitions are great.
Still, the loading breaks are annoying (they break the flow of the demo) and the models look a little bit crappy, but hey... simply put: Cool. :)

Yeah, this one roxx! 'bout the story however, is there a point I'm not getting?, 'cos seems quite pointless to me. Oh, and the music is quite good.
Intro music is average, the rest is quite good. I liked the whole feel of this demo. Some parts show very good design, like the girl walking by a bouncing ball, opening the shades and then touching the mirror... It is impressive that the software renderer runs quite well even in 640x480x32. There are a little design flaws imho like, why a tux guy and a swim suit girl? :-) The part where the girl rows in the sea is stopped rather suddenly. Also, the guy's head and the girl's body could use some more modeling work...
Anyway, it's rather long but I couldn'y say boring because I saw it twice in a row without problem... So I guess you should see this... :-)

Cool prods.
A code's being quick and the considered design were impressive.
I liked the story of this demo.

I just downloaded the stereo plugin and there seems to be an error in the zip file. Any other link than http://www.smash-designs.de/ guys???
this demo is phat :) software-rendering is nice, and running smooth on a PII450 in 640x480x32 is also very nice, when you think about the fact both the softsynth and the gfx-renderer are battling for cpu-time :)
And about the whole "design"-thingy: 5 layers of transparent effects doesn't necesserily mean anything else than annoyance. but if mess is to define design, ok with me.

lugOOber: There is no (realtime)-softsynth. This would actually make no sense at all in a demo.
nope, this is ofcourse a realtime MP3 softsynth! :)
I like it. I don't normally see demos like this, with a story to follow... reminds me of around the time when Genocide (or however they spelled it) came out.
About the software rendering.. To me personally, low-res and pixelation has never bothered me much.. but low bit-depth and bad antialiasing has somewhat...
The norm sometimes begins to sway me into preferring the higher-res stuff, until I realize that it isn't actually any more visually appealing to me personally. So yeah, software rendering can do just fine for me :) It might have trouble for lots of objects though..

Oh yeah. I had a lot of fun playing around with the display modes in the non-final version (dos only). I particularly enjoyed the CGA version. Why don't I see it in the final?
Great engine, cool modelling + animation, music by KB (read: fscking awesome! :)...
However, I wonder why this isn't called "Senseless" instead :) Sorry, guys, storyline could be better :)

A really well coded and modeled software-rendered demo. Quite nice, and it has a bit of a storyline, albeit a *weak* storyline... I found the music to be the weakest element by far.
Yeah, this was a nice demo, the storry was cool too!
And I realy like that sort of music.
And I realy like that sort of music.
yay
no idea why I like this :)
no idea why I like this :)
After having watched this several times more, I have to say that the music actually rocks :-)
As before, the concept is great and the only drawback is imho the models which could be better.

software-rendering still rocks!
Nice prod, "software rendering still rocks" :-)
This demo rulez, great 3d engine, and wonderful music ;)
Great demo, great sound, great atmosphere!
I don't give a crap about the softrender, but this demo rocked with ambition and nice design. Two years later, it DOES show its age, but definitely a thumbs up one!!
This is how demos should look like.
awsome music, nice storyline, fast paced graphics...
RESPECT!!!!

thumbs up for software rendering
thumbs down for really SHITTY MUSIC (no offence)
thumbs down for really SHITTY MUSIC (no offence)
...energetic but shitty
very good music, i love this water effect in the sea
the rest is a little bit slow in rythm, and textures are not fanstastic
but all stay coherent, it will be a classic in few years i think

too much 3d story demo for me ..
the theme is really awfull and the tale rather empty..
makes me feel like puking a currywurst.

Found at kb's music site
This is like reading a 3D story that comes alive right on the pages.
Awsummmmmmm !!

guess its about time I pay my respects to this demo
Quite nice.
It's not bad for a 3D production.
Check the envelopes on the bones though, I don't think they were adjusted quite right, especially on the guy character's legs :)
Worth the DL, IMHO the music is the best part.

Yeah! Now I finally got a new ghz/geforce PC it it's still slow in 1024*768.
Software rendering really rocks :)
Great anyway.

Two thumbs waaaaay up for Smash - oldschool coding with a state-of-the-art face (and voice!).
like this very much, great story, great music, anything just rocks!
Slow beggining, but nice after a while
nice track
great music - bravo kb
...much better than 'weltenkonstrukt' which is sensless as 'adrenalin'!

Hurray for softwarerendering, soundtrack and "demos for dummies". :)

Great Work!
Storydemos rock!!!
Storydemos rock!!!
What can I say? Haven't seen this for a while... software rendering still rocks! :)
Just try this gem. <3
A little bit long but features excellent things.
for some reason (and i really dont know which it is) i really like this demo.. maybe its the soundtrack making it feel so nice
The only Smash Designs windows demo I've ever seen, due to the fact that it's the only one I've ever gotten running. Mediocre plot, nice engine, great music and a cool freedir voxel. I especially liked the transition to the voxelscape.. thumbs up for that :)
I usually dislike prods with this kind of emotional plot, but I remember I clapped my hands off at the partyplace.
The music makes the whole atmosphere, and some of the effects are simply awesome. Plus, it runs on my machine at insane resolution in 2004 :D

"Softwarerendering still rocks!"
Very nice feats, even for today!
Love that prod. ( except for the strings at the beginning :\ )
I think this one is great. Sure, theres plenty wrong with it, but theres sooo much right with it, and some of the transitions are just great
Smash Designs still rocks !!! :)
Forgot to vote for it.
very different. Very effective. Very awesome.
Honourable KB soundtrack again (espec. loved the alarmclock).
Great Idea, very interesting and easy to want to watch.
Some cool graphics but too much of the chick's ass...
still. Software rendering does still rock, and this rocks.

....Yes , it does!
A trip like a poem!
Awesome soundtrack and atmosphere.
Awesome soundtrack and atmosphere.
Thumb for the Software-Rendering, but Piggy for the Rest..
Real niiiiice demo! Great work! Softwarerendering real rocks!!!
I really love it!
I like it very much! ... and mr. coke did the 3d stuff ;)
I like parts of kb's soundtrack and can see a lot of work went into this (some appreciable technical feats as well) but I'm not big on storydemos and I don't see anything special to make me like this one more than the others either. Most storydemos really fall short in that they lack any interesting story and this one's no exception.
thats a nice demo!
Interesting concept and flow in this demo and it is executed brilliantly.
The intro felt heavily "inspired" by Second Reality though.

One of my all-time favourites, especially the music!
Luv that demo!
Man, this certainly didn't age very well. =)
I remember having seen it on the MS2k bigscreen - I´m still impressed by it since it is an almost perfect combination of demo fx and telling a store. Especially the hand playing with shadow is a killer (a pitty that the hand is way too shiny, though).
BEST MUSIC EVER MADE :')
KB you're a genius!
Really!
KB you're a genius!
Really!
really nice demo
oooh, didnt thumb this one yet... audio<3
what toxie said.
Whoa, I almost forgot about this prod until now; thumb up of course for doing everything in software (this brings me old memories ;)! And the music is somehow uplifting, good work KB!
i still like it, the music rulez and the graphics are ok...
by the way... you can get the stereo addon here
Very nice - The Soundtrack from KB Rules as usual :)
Aged badly. It's the problem with that kind of 99% 3D flyby stuff these guys keep on doing through the years.
Sure, software rendering rules, so do some of the effects featured in this kinda long prod, but tis one is definitely not my taste. And I must say I found the soundtrack pretty terrible here, sorry ;)
So piggy for being from 2000.

i like this demo and i still rewatch it sometimes.
wtf, I thought i thumbed this one up already. apparently I didn't. so now I do. liked it back when it was released and still like it nowadays. great music.
i still have to watch this again and again. imagine a second thumb here.
Yeah, its 2008 and softwarerendering still rocks (in high res by now, realizing that smash designs demos still look the same - its just the resolution which has changed =D)
Great for geeting sleepy :)
Atmospheric.
Wow
was a real killer at its time, for me some of the very best demos sd ever did.
I'd thumb up a black screen with this music
ARRGH!!! Thanks for the winXP port, guys !!! Here comes my fat thumb. Still great story direction demo and ultimate music score by KB. After all these years it is the same great show. SD never beaten this.
Respect and thanks !
Respect and thanks !
[I have nothing to say about it but I still want to thumb up, the old "space"]
WoW! Never saw this before. Love the rythm in it. Great soundtrack aswell.
really nice .
Softwarerendering still rocks in 1920x1200! (Although the voxel landscape is still rather slow here :P)
vote! great music. Runs smoothly at 1680x1050 :)
Thumb up for the music and the technical skill.
The design is ugly though...

thanks for the stereoaddon!
that 3d acceleration joke in the launcher dialogue is SO STOLEN from monkey island 3 :p
Really like the music - the visuals are ok too and as I love demos done with pure software rendering -> thumb up!
Here's a Youtube Rip I made:

great music. the demo has charm. i especially liked the boat scene (=
Wow, it must have involved a lot of work!
.
...and they found love under a certain star.....
interesting..
8:08, now I get it! :D
Quite impressive use of ressources given that this is software rendering, and the atmosphere and direction is great. Didn't like the textlines (i prefer scenes to speak for themselves), and the framerate varies a lot on a per scene basis.
Overally, thumbs up.
Overally, thumbs up.
Hmmm .. not sure what to think about this one. It's "just" rather low-poly 3D scenes that look like something out of a N64 game, and the parts seem a bit disparate. Not my cup of a tea, really, though software rendering is kinda cool, but then again does it matter so much. Hmm.
yes :)
Wierd story, but still an epic demo - which perhaps says more about storylines in demos in general than this particular story ;-)
A bit disconnected and random, plus weird camera paths - but boy does that look like a LOT of effort! They don't do this kind of mega-demo anymore...
Funny how the guy wears a suit and the woman underwear. %-)
Funny how the guy wears a suit and the woman underwear. %-)
Just yes. In so many ways. And I learned today it (partially) works with HW 3D accel on a Riva TNT under DOS, which is a "WTF here comes a free thumb" alone.
For the awesome amount of rendering modes
Just terrible. Having human characters was pretty ambitious though.
What cce said. Utterly boring and inane, with a couple enjoyable parts in the soundtrack.
very original. Never saw it before, especially back in the time it was released in the first place.
Da stimmt einfach alles.
End of first part is great, but the rest does not look that good.
Well, this didn't age well at all.
Great stuff and love the soundtrack!
