@legend: It's less obvious with the grey background mixed in the 4x4 tiles, but there's clearly more than 16 colors per scanline when you see the picture rotate and zoom further out
Amazing one screener. Would be interesting to see if any Amiga coders would take up the challenge and try reaching this without the given technical advantages mentioned in the scroller.

(I already did a quick look using Bugaboo and saw some kind of Spectrum512 or Cyg/BlaBla technique.)
Something which would have been absolutely top notch: using sampled-sound instead of YM2149 chip-music, maybe a sample-sequence of Estrayk's tune from the Batman Group/Capsule "Still Snacking" Commodore Amiga intro.
But I guess you are a bit spare of processor time on each scanline to replay an 8 bit sample at 15650 Hz.
