Great imaginative story driven demo, as Dbug knows to do it.
Congrats on the vertical resolution split, a bit glitchy of course, but that's certainly due to AI limits. XD

Just FYI, the executable runs on a real Atari STe. None of the Atari emulators I tried (Steam 3.2, Steam SSE 4.1.2 R17 or Hatari 2.6.0) was able to show the content properly.

I love to break emulators \o/

Ah, of course, I made a mistake vertical and horizontal split in my comment. ^_^

You can feel the vibe of Neverending Story on the humble Atari XL/XE — that same fairy-tale pulse, retro mood, and pixelated melancholy. Good things do come back! 💾✨🧙‍♂️

Haha well interpreted kapsel, please keep proving yourself as a valuable asset to the scene 🤣

I know dbug didn't have enough time to finish it and do everything he wanted. Still its really cool to see horizontal mode switching, especially since the emulators now have to catch up.

Shame you didn't have time to hide the glitch at the boundary.

@xeron: I'll try to see if I can find a way to fix most glitches.

Like the low border sometimes glitches (it did during the party on the projector) but Troed thinks that using the Level16 stabilizer trick should fix that one.

But that's for future me after my holidays in France :D

Here’s your AI thumb.

I dont think dbug actually used AI to make this?
added on the 2025-07-07 12:33:02 by xeron xeron
Or at least not to generate the actual ST code. I may be wrong, I thought it was a demo where the theme is vibecoding, not a demo that was vibecoded.

Lol this is 68k using significant hardware hacks. It's parodying AI and coded by hand, not coded by AI.

Absurdly ill-informed move to downthumb. Did you even look at the prod?

Actual source code, I did not think somebody from the scene would actually think it was AI generated :D

Fair enough. I read the credits and thought you were being honest and transparent.

My bad.

This was genuinely entertaining with quality storyline. Thanks for brighting up our days, and adding some humour to this otherwise polarizing AI stuff! Thanks!

Thumbs up for the fun demo, but even more so for the hardcore hardware hacking :) Overscan, horizontal resolution splits, but also splitting the screen address horizontally! Must be the first time I've heard of that. Kudos Dbug!

Fun concept and execution, with a surprise ending, though I could see others copying the idea. Reminded me of this oldie.

Absolutely love this. Great ideas, funny and more like a complex entertainment show. I find it quite amazing that this was put together in such a short time span as it ended up being quite impressive with all the multi-content on screen. Still have to figure out which part is low and which is med-res.
Thanks for this very creative Atari production - again!
rulez added on the 2025-07-09 00:01:25 by fiveofive fiveofive
@5o5: The chat prompt at the top right is in med rez, and so is the "SceneSat" logo at the bottom right. The rest is in low res.

The top section with the distorter basically is:
- Screen address change + scroll offset to distorted image
- Low resolution change
- Left border opening + color palette change
- (waiting for split position)
- Screen address change + resetting scroll offset to chat panel
- Medium resolution change
- Right border opening + color palette change
- (waiting for end of line)

That's about it :)

The parts below are simpler because I could not get the overscan stable, so I just set the address and scroll position only once (at the top of the section) instead of changing it every scanline.
