@NR4 its like a lot of other raymarching shaders with a few tweaks. The 3d scene is just a black sphere with a thin flat disk around it.
The main "simulation" is that the code to trace light rays out from the camera goes in small steps and applies a fairly simple gravitational attraction force to the ray direction at each step based on the distance from the black hole (similar to what a particle system simulation might do). If the ray goes off into space it looks up the background "stars" based on the final ray direction.
