Nice efx, but the torus shown above is not realtime!

nice for its time. Cool tune.
But is it me or the effects are slow even though the 4x4 blocks ?

hell.. where's my last posting? ... yep the TORUS is a big FAKE! Its an animation! :)
Defjam/Checkpoint did a hack of it.

The effects are indeed quite slow. The ones at beginning, with their 4x4 blocks dithered with just 2 colours actually remind me of Spectrum demos :)
Despite this and the infamous torus animation, I quite like it, mostly because of the music and for being one of the early newschool demos on ST.

As Lotek Style mentionned it, Defjam ripped the torus anim and used it here.

Good stuff and a good initiative to do something else besides mega scrollers and dot records. As far as I know it's sqwards first ever demo he coded as well, which is a very impressive beginning. Of course, great zak by cube as well.

I remember this as the first significant demo heralding the resurrection of the ST scene after it had 'died' in 1993.

Would have been thumbs-up worthy at the time. So here it is now.

Some effects are slow, could be faster.
But still like it, lot's of soft-rendering nifty stuff.
Makes me imagine that flat torus faster (not the pseudo phong, but previously).

Atari ST should be able to do better framerates than this
sucks added on the 2025-03-05 11:51:51 by cruzer cruzer
cruzer: To put this into context - in 1997 this demo was pioneering work, as it was one of the first demos approaching these kinds of effect on ST at all.

It was released when all the 50hz-commited oldschool groups had left and the ST scene was almost dead. So in that perspective, it was a outstanding life sign on the platform and also opened the playground for the things to come.

Not that your personal scale really matters, but I wonder how "Atari ST should be able to do better framerates than this" justifies a thumb down for a demo, that a friendly and creative 17 year old teenager and his friends put all his passion and time into.
