• Have you folks tried with "vgaonly" driver? iirc it does scanline-accurate simulation of the hw these days and i have gotten this to run almost correctly (but it might have been some dev-snapshot.. and getting timing right might require some experimentation with cycles etc)

  Well, the meat of the routine is an 8x8 block of add reg1, [reg2+selfmodify];
  adc reg3, reg3 which effectively performs an error distribution dither for a single-bitplane effect. The bitmap of course changes every frame so you get motion blur.
  
  There are some other little hacks due to perspective, but we can afford to precalc a few different blocks for different areas of screen etc.
