are we going for another "how many different scene dramas can a pouet thread have" world record? :)

britelite: Does the Sharp MZ-800 demo creator on page one of this thread count? (OK, so I was using 'Vic-20' as a shorthand for "platforms that aren't in the oldskool compo any more". Or "one third of all oldskool entries ever", if you prefer...)

I appreciate that there is still the option of the real wild compo, but given that Sharp MZ-800 hackers have more in common with C64/Speccy hackers than WebGL/Gamecube/Android/oscilloscope hackers, that's naturally the more attractive compo to enter. If 50% of them choose the real wild compo as the next best thing, rather than taking their release elsewhere, that's still a net loss for Assembly entries. I guess the remaining question is whether that loss is justified by the gain in equality/authenticity, and that's your estimate against mine. (And since it's your compo, and I'm missing Assembly this year anyhow, that's probably my cue to concede that point.)

psenough, don't be a little girl. all aboard the drama boat!
I think it's time to face the fact that as more and more esoteric platforms become "popular" (Sharp MZ-800, Vic20, random self-built machines), the less likely it is for each of them to have a separate and comparable compo-"space", since they are so few and far between. In terms of hosting compos at a party, it just makes sense to focus on a few that you know (or at least: hope!) will gather a decent amount of entries.

gasman: Jope already stated the reason for the changes, and we had to draw the line somewhere and this seemed like the most logical one (considering there already is a real wild democompo for the exotic platforms).

And it's not like there's been any demos for these "missing" platforms at Assembly in the past few years anyway...

Just for the good of it:
Competition: The thing that introduces the deadline and that makes sure you actually release something and not polish on your production for ages.

Having fun: Creating the intro, working with various concepts, ideas and designs and the creative process in general.

Fulfillment: The crowd reaction and eventually - the rank in the compo and the comments from the rest of the scene.

I like to think that most athletes do it to overcome themselves, and not their opponents.

Indeed. That's what they like to say and we'd like to think.

I say it: I make music because I want to be cuddled.
I posted it in the shoutbox instead of the thread because I didn't want to bump it up, but now it's there anyway
