It is the first time I heard about this event. What is it all about? I am afraid that it could be a commercial bullshit. Would you, guys, give me some reviews?

its a hacker conference of sorts. in an outdoors camping site i believe.
its not a commercial bullshit. check videos of their previous editions.
there were a few demoscene showcases there a few times promoted by the koln guys.

its during the week of the evoke demoparty though. which is inconveniant for sceners somehow :)

I might consider going, but I'll be busy - we're having Revolution Camps all over Germany.

i think that one is more hacking related than demoscene related..

People there usually don't care a lot...

there are some people involved in both areas (chaos computer club / demoscene) tho.
i think the digitale kultur e.v. (who is organizing evoke) has some ties as well.
ive been to one ccc event in the past. its usually a lot more serious than a demoparty (maybe thats why it was called "congress"? :p) with lots and lots of talks and workshops.
but yeah. if youre a true geek or aiming at becoming one and live in or near germany its def. a good thing to check out.

appreciation of club-mate is not needed, but it helps.

CCCamp is indeed a very non-commercial event that is mainly focussed on hackers. But not hackers as in "evil people breaking into computers and do bad things". Hacking can be lots of stuff. It can be security related, but it doesn't have to be. In a way demosceners are hackers too. Actually, CCCamp is always a combination of technology and art.
Every time I went to such a hackercamp I meet demosceners there.

I went to CCCamp 2007, and they had a kick-ass location (a former sovjet airforce base) neer Berlin. Afaik they kept the same location for this year.
Too bad I most probably wont go there this year. I have too much stuff on my hands with the construcion of my house.

I'll be there for the two days before Evoke (Helsinki -> Berlin -> Cologne round trips become quite a natural thing to do when you're doing demo parties by train). I have no idea what to expect though...

gasman: i was considering doing the same but then the price / time spent there ratio seemed a little steep for my current financial state. :)

I'm going!

It's not a demo-party, but these hackers do know how to party :)

Hi everyone,

great to see that gasman already brought the r0ket badge to your attention. It's an electronic name tag for every attendee of cccamp2011. I'm one of the guys building the thing, and we would love to collaborate with the demoscene on this project.

Nothing is fixed at this point, but it would be great to have a nice demo as a startup animation or so in the default firmware for the camp.

Relevant hardware on the r0ket is a 32bit ARM cortex M3 CPU (LPC1343) running at 70MHz, 8k RAM, 32k flash, a 96x68 pixel monochrome display and a few LEDS. No audio unfortunately.

We are really short on development hardware at the moment, but we are working on an emulator, and if anyone really wants to dive into it, I am sure somehow access to hardware can be arranged.

If you are interested, drop us a message (team@r0ket.badge.events.ccc.de) or join us in irc (irc://irc.blafasel.de/#r0ket).

Come on, audio is mandatory :(

BB Image

video of a fixpoint mandelbrot renderer.

For audio, we have GPIOs on pinheaders, and we would not try to prevent anyone from attaching a piezo buzzer or a headphone socket to his r0ket...

Atmosphere is generally very relaxed. Work on any project you like. Talk to inspiring people. Or just enjoy the great light installation at night.
