Haha believe it or not, but last night i dreamt of being at breakpoint2009 and FLT did a demo or 64k (i missed KB's announcement!!!) with cars, it was a bit like Pixar's Cars vs. Field Trip and it was damn awesome!!! Also Reed's music was very funky!!! Oh and then i went boozing with nosfe, truck and gargaj next to the bonfire! then i woke up, so i missed the part of the dream where gargaj vomited the mona lisa in the mud!
pixar's cars vs field trip? great idea! mm, there's still time...

well what i still can remember is that there were two cute cars (one red oldtimer with very rusty textures) and a green one (with less rusty textures) and they were being chased by a mean looking bigass truck with lotsa spiky metal bits, an evil grill and blowing brown smoke in the air who wanted to drive over them! :(

i cant remember (or maybe i didnt dream) how this all ended up tho apart from after the compo i went boozing :D

A good hint is not to book your flight one week before the party!!

I know this is not appropriate in the TG thread, but there's also another party going on at the same time..

Preacher: ...which gets back to the never ending discussion about why TG or BP doesnt change their dates!

yeah, well, I changed my mind a few times for a number of reasons -

But it seems that I'm heading to TG after all this Saturday !! Hooray and three cheers for Gloom.

I often have strange dreams prior to partys or trips in general that I'm gonna mis a bus, a flight, the car breaks down etc... and I've had it for this years bp as well. I dreamed that I went to the bus in frederecia the wrong day :-)

looking forward to the new asd demo!

funny, shouldn't AOA release a demo at tg09 at home soil instead
or next to asd? :)

Magic, thats not funny at all. Breakpoint "deserves" the big demos.
Im gonna be mad disappointed if most big groups release at TG instead of BP.
(Sorry, TG is probably fine an all that, but I just couldnt hold it in anymore)

tft: no argue about that
but this thread is about tg....

btw I remember downloading Animal Attracktion from ASD at bp06 party place just 1.5 hours before bp06 demo compo was starting :)

p.s. i was dreaming that asd also released a demo at bp09
and the tg09 asd demo was just nothing compared to it ;)

i had a dream! it was magic without fingers!
Maali / KidA: for the last time , keep of my back at pouet. The scene doesnt need you to stalk sceners on pouet. Expect a complaint to the admins of pouet next time..

well.. hopefully, if there is no overlap between the compos, you can play our TG demo (as well as from other groups that I'm sure will have some interesting productions ( playpsyco, outracks, pp etc.)) on the big BP screen. Then you can imagine that is all part of the same BP compo, but got disqualified for some undefined reason.

Navis: we tried getting the bp team (and at mekka earlier) to play the winning demo from tg for years and years already, no go ;)

but the nice thing is that they are always available on pouet, nowadays :)

hmm.. that is interesting. I wonder why, is it because of technical reasons (no available time) or to avoid any sort of "competition"/comparison ?

Usually it is the case (and that I say with all respect to the norwegian scene that stays home) that the top-3 demos from TG are rather less spectacular than the BP demos; so I don't see any problem with that anyway.

Basically the way I saw it in 2006 when I last visited TG is that if you represent a group with a less than outstanding demo (such as debris, mesagin, etc.) it will probably be kind of lost at BP. But at TG it might make a difference, and let me elaborate: there could simply be a year without *any* decent demo production at TG (and that is quite possible actually for Assembly and other big quasi-demo parties too like Euskal). The sponsors of the party then think: ehm, why exactly are we forking out money to help produce this, lets keep it a purely game party from now on. Then a classic party is lost. Maybe. I don't know, I know nothing about the production of these parties so I might be wrong.

Ofcourse then, the reason to go to BP is also social, and that is a pretty strong reason for everybody, including me. Unfortunately I had to have an operation recently and all the dates were up in the air. Only this week I realised that I can manage a trip abroad on my own again. It is too late for BP, but thanks to Gloom it is not so for TG (speaking of which, it was Gloom's idea to make a contribution for TG, and it was a good idea as the end result is actually ok. We were planning to have a long rest over easter but, hey...)

People will release their demos at the party they feel like. Nothing's new about that.

Having a closer look at the sponsors of the Gathering makes me quite sure they don't care about this small part the demoscene occupies at the Gathering at all. It helps giving the whole thing the look of a creative thing instead of a pure LAN party. They wouldn't care if no decent demos would be released because they (the sponsors, not the organizers) are simply targetting their sponsoring efforts on gamers. Nothing more - nothing less. Overall you still should keep in mind that most of the companies (excluding the ones owned by demosceners) just care about:

- Finding new customers.
- Binding customers.
- Getting publicity in the target group

That's it. Keeping the demoscene part in the Gathering sure is important and nice. But in times of recession (man - I hat this word by now) you shouldn't believe the companies care about something other than the three mentioned points. Sorry to burst your bubble.
