Nine Inch Nails releases 405 GB of unedited, raw HD concert footage - do what you want with it

The internet is full of surprises these days.

I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.

If any of you could find a link to that footage I'll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.

Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me.

There is about 405gb of HD footage available. It was recorded with multiple consumer HDV cameras during three shows: Victoria 12.05.08, Portland 12.07.08, and Sacramento 12.12.08.

This is raw, unedited, un-color-corrected HD footage. It will be primarily of interest to advanced users, who may wish to attempt to edit it together into something. It could be really interesting to see what creative users can put together using this and other fan-recorded footage.

This is really nice. I bet a fan-made dvd of the tour will show up in no time.

What is it with demosceners and their obsession with nine inch nails?
Reznor is famous for giving away stuff for free online and actually is one of the leaders in nu-distribution!

And he made the music from Quake and inspired p. much all trackers in the early 90s.

I have no love (nor hate) for Trent Reznor, I just think this is a really cool thing to do :) Plus, it's a very demosceneish spirit, which I guess is why other demosceners have an "obsession" with NIN :)

The album he gave away for free sounded pretty much like left overs to me. I appreciate his efforts of course and it is a nice change from the usual music industry attitude.

When is Closure coming out on DVD?

Never!

What?!

You can ask Universal, because they’re idiots, and they’re afraid to put it out.

People are dying for that.

Yes, but … there is a silver lining.

I’m listening.

A couple of years ago around this time of year, somebody must have broken into my personal files and uploaded onto a torrent site the entire DVD of Closure.

Oh darn.

Yeah, I don’t know who could have done that.

Hmm.

So, that basically means that it doesn’t need to come out on DVD anymore.

i wasnt impressed by The Slip either, and even though parts of Ghosts (i only got the free 10 tracks) i found genious, it's clearly not a Pretty Hate Machine - but for me that's ok because he does what he wants, and he's still doing great music either way... just... he's much looser now. (whether that's a good thing i'm not sure, actually.)

NIN is even more overrated than the Beatles.

The first one to release the 405 GB as 64K intro gets a beer from me. And probably the Turing award too. And the Fields medal...

Joghurt: releasing 405 GB as 64k shouldn't be that big of a problem. The image and sound quality might suffer a bit though.

Tom Yorke is recorded singing while making a cup of tea, releases as 'promo content'.

I like how that works!

lol

Also someone should steal Adobe's 'infinite images' zoomer to make it work for movies and have all the concerts in the footage play in the same seamless traversable worldspace
NIN or not, it's good to see a major band moving with the times...

at a french rock festival i was kicked out because i was filming a (lame) band, and my camera confiscated til the end >:(

Umm... giving out unedited and probably useless stuff to appear in all major internet media and make people edit it for free... this Marketing in caps.

They are all free.

And yes, it's hard to get excited about post 1990s NIN, but at least Reznor is fighting the good fight. :)
