what is your fav anime series

category: general [glöplog]
I wouldn't call watching anime having a "broad scope" these days. it's about as mainstream as the internet, videogames and rap music.

You are using the internet = scene rights revoked. ;)

Not all anime is mainstream anyways. And who cares if it is? Granted I don't spend most of my time looking in to the mainstream. But to call an entire genre/style of art mainstream is pretty bold, albeit wrong.

No, animation is a medium.

Fair enough. But then again, one could argue that this is just another layer of abstraction. The medium is film, period.

Midnight Sleazy Train is not mainstream. It is a high quality piece of art!

Well, anime isn't a genre, at least, that would be unfair. Despite 90% of it being completely identitical, out of respect for the 10% that are somewhat original, I think it's better defined as a style and/or a tradition, possibly even an "artistic framework". Sadly all it's good for is making otherwise respectable ideas seem immature and cliched.

The 80's and early 90's anime movies were great. The shading detail was amazing, the digital cell shading sucks :(
The cyberpunk stuff from that time was amazing like the first GITS movie, Akira, Bubble Gum Crisis 2032 and Crash, Megatokyo police stuff, Madox, Tank Swat, Cyber Oedo, Armitage III, etc

It appears to be bait for Tyranosaurus.

In other news, I like GitS:SAC, Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.

Believe it.

I really can't see what's so great with Elfen Lied. The only thing I enjoyed was the opening. Kept watching it hoping it got better but it never did.
