It doesn't look like developing on the xbox 360 would become free all suddenly for both demosceners and demosconsumers anytime soon unfortunately :/

Bah, buy a refurbished xbox classic and mod it (piece of cake), you'll have your apparent pc-like platform without having to inject money to obtain a license or people having to pay to watch your prods :D

hitch: the big interest of the 360 relies on those facts :

1) it's similar to PC development, compared to wii or PS3
2) it's still powerful enough to challenge leet PC coders
3) it's currently a popular console


and to be honest i feel it's a pity that the platform that has given me so much joy with GTA4 or FarCry 2 can't shine also through accessible demos :/

I dare to say that the xbox 1 is more challenging than the 360, if you take my meaning ;) (Especially, i don't remember much xbox demos showing any hardware trickery).

Considering the amount of xbox 360 demos around here it doesn't look too popular in the demoscene to me.

Actually, it is surprisingly slow.. at least with what you have access to through XNA.

I don't know much about how XNA works, but it's indeed surprisingly slow even natively if you don't utilize multithreading properly. I've found it pretty easy to kill the framerate by doing inefficient code that wouldn't hurt much at all on the PC :)

i find those claims somewhat dubious - any API is passed almost directly to the layer beneath (i.e. very little overhead over native D3D) and as for effect code, well, just use unsafe mode?

xrl, yes, the codes are for Creator's Club, that you need to deploy your code to Xbox 360. They are 12 month codes, and free naturally. Teams that previously got these codes can also re-request codes if they need them.

any news on this since? i would love to submit our demo to peer review, but since my membership expired, i guess i'd need to use up another code, and i dunno if it's a good idea if the general idea is to have games and strictly games only.
