Just to get back on topic, was that whole thing with the generous handing out of votekeys ever resolved?
added on the 2007-04-13 18:55:30 by doomdoom doomdoom
It's even more pathetic in chimera's case considering one jury member of assembly sort of bullied the others into not accepting it, by ESC[aping] it.

doom: yeah. two seperate problems:

1st, some of the papers with votekeys on them stuck together. we tried to make sure we gave each person only one votekey, but apparently during all the after-democompo-hectic we missed some :/

2nd, the two guys who were running around with 5 votekeys or a whole sheet of them, respectively, were both (drunk) organizers. they've been warned never to do this again, but apart from being a poor joke, no harm was done (none of those votekeys actually got used, as they were still lying around in the organizer area after the voting deadline).

and yeah, we'll make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

this is senseless, really.

disqualify the trsi demo then too, because it had gianna. and probably all console demos are developed on illegal devkits, what a shame!

psycholns, what about cybercinematastic? :D

or did someone ever sued byterapers for using abba lyrics and pictures?

and ofcourse we all use legal versions of musiceditors, vstis, samplecd's for the entries and the soundtracks...
no cracked photoshops allowed either!

ryg: According to Archmage, he was given two votekeys quite deliberately by the drunk orginizer who handed them out. "hush, hush" was the message he got.

Is it now the right time for Razor to release a 'Breakpoint Votekey generator!' and release it at the party?

Oh the hilarity that would ensue..

The pre-selection is there to grade all entries that participate in the competition and we release the jury scores also. So yes, in the context of the competition those entries did lose out to the ones that made to the big screen.

Bullshit.
I was member of one pre-selection jury at assembly 2003 (or was it 2004, don't remember), and it was uber crap-shit.

Seriously, one guy was totally drunk, and sharing is bottle of Vodka to others, and the "annoyed official assembly dude" was in a hurry to show the pictures once very fast. I asked him to pass them a second time because it was not possible to get a good idea of the general quality with what he does.

And then I asked him to check if he did not forgot any picture, because well I knew somebody who participated and I did not see the picture.

After I promised to do a scandal, he agreed on checking on the hard drive and then found out some missing ones.

So for the seriousness of organisation, please stop bullshitting.

And I learned by somebody else who was at the old-school graphics compo jury that he did not see my Oric picture either. I had to find some officials to ask them to check and then found that yes it was missing and they added my picture WITHOUT HAVING THE PRESELECTION JURY EVEN SEE IT.

Basically all it means is that if in your "professionally organised demo party who is not able to release the promised hardware less than 6 month after it was promised by invoking lames reasons" people have better have to follow everything that happen else they just get the bad luck of getting disqualified for NO FUCKING REASON other than the organisation is just plain FEELING SELF IMPORTANT.

If assembly want to pretend to be serious and everything and professional and it's a competition yadada yadada, please do it correctly.

I (d)beg to differ, good sir. :)

I've been a member of various pre-selection jurys at Assembly for quite a few years now, and apart from some of the meetings taking a bit too long to get through, they have all been professional. No drunk people, no bullshitting, serious commenting on the productions and then the vote.

I think this is the moment where Abyss tells us he'll look into it and make sure the mistake won't happen again. But yeah, sounds faintly familiar.

How can someone drink vodka at assembly anyway? (This is a very serious question, we've been trying a couple of methods so far...)

come on, even the most expensive party prices are quite nothing compared to the work and passion involved in most prods... they are just lil rewards. Fun, friendship, excitement, pride and SEXYNESS are the real rewards. If demomakers are in for the dough, they are seriously stupid, they could win way more outside with far less talent and dedication. So no need to get nazi about lil ripping or more or less serious organization. The Timbaland case is a totally different story, it deals with big bucks, that shameless stealer should be dragged through public mud >:(

gloom: various does not equate all. It would appear not all is well up in the booth at all times, and this is ofcourse pretty much natural.

Gargaj: By being an organizer.

what i find funny is that even with this principle of releasing all not shown prods someone still managed to get disqualified at asm 2005 and then get shown on asm 2006 with exactly same prod in the short film compo.

to me scene is not about being competitive but about sharing your ideas with other people while sharing some beers.
added on the 2007-04-14 00:59:21 by nosfe nosfe
nosfe: sure, people have to be completely drunk in order to understand your releases.
added on the 2007-04-14 01:04:03 by Zplex Zplex
gargaj, just forget drinking at asm and stay at boozembly.
you'll have lot more fun.

zest, the problem with ripped content is that the party showing such prods can get into problems because of showing the stuff and then spreading it.
smaller parties tend to be a lot more careless with such issues, so if you want to use somethign that's ripped then do it at a small party. :)
