scene music stolen

Wow, this thread. I can't remember a time when Boris Vallejo made such a fuss :-) Maybe all those artists I work with in the games industry, who got employed as a _direct_ result of "their" cool copies, should be paying Boris a percentage of their saleries :)))

can't .. some of you guys tone down the insults against timbaland though? I mean yeah what he has done is not defendable, but he still do have some form of talent.

By that, I mean to argue against homophobic, racist/nationalist insults (bashing him because he's from the USA while noting the racism in youtube's comments is insanity)

Låten ”Do It” från Nelly Furtados senaste hitalbum ”Loose” påminner påtagligt den finska maskinmusikern Tempests instrumentallåt ”Acid Jazz Evening”, som kom ut redan för sex år sedan.
- maskinmusikern... gotta löve the finnish to swedish translation of YLEs news.

I second Nicolas. All the useless "yeah well he's from the states. he's a nigger, he's this and he's that" is not exactly helping.

The YouTube comments actually got god knows how many people deciding all demosceners are ignorant trolls, and most of them aren't even from demosceners. Just imagine how seriously people will take the demoscene after reading this.

And it's useless to say "but this is pouet" in the current case, because people who will most probably bump onto this thread won't know much about the demoscene in the first place, and they will certainly not know about "the pouet way" of having a conversation

Who says things like that? Apart from the morons commenting on YouTube (and Stefan of course).

Why should they think that the YouTube-comments came from demosceners? I'm pretty darn sure that the majority of those comments are from random YouTube-watchers, and I don't think "The Demoscene(tm)" is expected to answer for the things said there.

Sure, there is some bashing going on here, but (for some strange reason :) it is _waaaaay_ softer than anything going on in other forums/blogs etc.

Actually gloom I've already read a couple forums posts stating those "demosceners posting on youtube" were racists. An unreasonable conclusion, right, but one that we should be prepared to wistand.

Which is why it is such a good thing that noone here has been acting like the YouTube-crowd, as far as I can see. Still; if we wanted to make sure that no journalists or forum-lurker had any reason to say such things (which they don't), I guess ps should start cleaning up the BBS rather quicky. :)

As I said; this thread has been almost frightfully clean.

well I don't want to repeat the insults but I've already seen a "... is a fag" and countless USA related dissing.

Yeah, well, I have no real issue with people dissing the US in this thread. It's what usually goes on in the BBS anyway, so why should this one be an exception? :)

But seriously; I totally agree with you on the "chill down"-bit.

Anyho; I expect it's only a matter of time before the YouTube-stuff it taken down. I mean; how long does it take for the Geffen-people to drink their coffee and read some online news? :)

Pouët and you tube comments mean nothing. What's important is what the label, or Timbaland as to say about the case. The Demoscene or the Demosceners (appart from GNG and Hempest) have nothing to do with it. I think that only American's feel insulted when they listen to someone saying "nigger"... for me it's just another way to say african. In Africa or Asia you're "white"... for me "nigger" is an abreviation of "negro" which means "dark", which by it's way it's another word for "black". You can't take the blackness of the guy... it's almost like calling fat guy to a fat guy. He know's he's fat :D

It's probably because the demoscene has never been so united on one issue.
xernobyl: I think that was a crown example of things that ought _not_ to be said here, thank you very much.

xernobyl: You do realize it's not just the United States of America where ye olde n-worde is considered no-so PC?

Anyway, some digg poster suggested taking this up with the EFF. I don't really think that's a dumb idea. AT ALL.
added on the 2007-01-15 21:02:09 by Shifter Shifter
EFF, eh? Hmm... I'd second Shifter on that.
thom: Well, there had to be _something_ that could get us all together, eh? (apart from Boozembly, of course :)

Further more; I can't see the word "demoscene" mentioned a single time on the YouTube video-descriptions. It's the blogs, forums and news-sites who have attached this term to the debate.

Isn't the EFF mostly concerned with the issue of freedoms as experienced by the public? This issue here is more like an issue between an individual vs another individual, rather than a societal issue.

Although, of course, it brings political questions, which I guess we should expect our political parties to cover. (Corporation Feudalism vs Individual Liberties)

xernobyl, why can't then one call that man by his name, or profession. Why would one feel compelled to note that he is blond haired, fat or small or what the color of his skin is. If one must mention it, it has to be related to one's perception of the event. It has to be because one does make a connection between the event and that particular information about the character.

And making such a connection is pretty disgusting, managing to be at the same time insane, and stupid.

Emphasizing it by using insensitive words is making an ever bigger draw towards the "connection."

Another note: even if one is sincere in the definition one uses of a word, before using a word, whose sole role is to communicate, one has to take into account what the meaning of the word has to others.

Otherwise that's just for shocking value, show, or just an inability to communicate.
