Is it bad and frowned upon...

...to comment on your own group's productions here on Pouet.net?
No harm in commenting but BB Image gets you lots of BB Image. BB Image

Sadly it's not possible to comment if a) you're not the uploader, or b) you've given either a thumb up/down or piggy before.

Consider this an official request for the Pouet.net coders ;)
uh..?
Everyone can comment as many times as they want as long as they are logged in. They can only RATE the production once, which makes totally sense.

i think it's TOTALLY legitimate to thumb up your groups' productions if you weren't involved.

i think you should even vote your own production when you were involved. in reallife parties also vote for themselves... its normal ppl :P

i'd say: fuck the pouetiquette - if it wasn't too late for me to say that, because i too went with the crowd and belittled those who thumbed themselves up for obvious reasons.

still, after all those years on pouet people need to grow some extra balls and moan less about people who need to push their self-confidence with a file called rulez.gif.

in the true oldschool days (i means more than ten years ago), it was lame to vote for your own group members, it was the original and normal rules to avoid selfvoting and namevoting for friends (like we can see today in parties). If your groupmates are good, they don't need the vote of their own group members.
who gives a shit anyway?
you can rate your ass at home and it will be as important as pouet votings

MadenMann: Sure, you have a point, but what if I want to tell a story about a production of ours, without voting for it?
I do not want to vote for our own productions (I'm not saying I haven't. In fact, I thumbed up HivelyTracker just the other day), but would just like to be able to give some information about it.

So, people. This thread is not about selfvoting or not - it's about commenting your group's productions.

The pigface is generally considered neutral, most people have enough clue to know when it's meant as a vote and when it's only a comment.
create a fakeuser and start every comment with a thumb up and a 'Nutman told me that ...' :D
when i give BB Image to my prods but people don't react by giving many BB Images against my vote. life is harsh :/
Hehe, doesn't work the other way around I guess.

On a not so serious note, I think it is okay to selfvote if you were really drunk when you made the product and/or when you voted.

what linde said, specially the "really drunk" part.

rules: thumb up for nosfe, thumb down for everyone else.

i think you shouldn't care so much about politics and vote for what is truly holding production quality. do not care about budget or names, vote for true quality and state your oppinion harsh. it's really what everyone want to do. but most of them have friends in a "famous" group so they will go and hunt fame by voting up some lowquality prod in hope to gain popularity among more members in that "famous" groups and therefor gaining popularity in that "internal" group.

they think! think! that if they continue doing so they will either be accepted into the "elite" demosceners secret group, or atleast join this "famous" group, only to find out it wasnt that glamorous and only two of those 10 great names matched standards and the rest of them sucked bullasses for money.

seriously; follow your guts. if you have any. do not vote for you local "fame" groups to get popularity or your national demogroups because "hey, they speak my language: maybe they will take me in because iam a native!". just vote for what is good and diss whatever is not.

Ok, I can see I started this thread in the wrong way.

It has NOTHING to do with voting for your own prods.

I want to be able to comment on prods without giving a vote. Period.
Besides, the piggy is not acceptable to use for commenting, as it, compared to a "Thumb up" is a negative vote.
Of course, if you get lots of "Thumb down", a piggy is a positve vote. :)
But that's not what I am talking about at all...
o_Ô

Nutman: the piggy is neutral. It's a NON VOTE and can be changed to a thumb on a later time/comment. It's perfectly ok, more it's meant, to comment when you haven't made your mind on a prod or don't want to rate it.

On a slightly different topic it might be nice to have a n/a item in the rating form so one can actively give a piggy when the prod neither rulez or sucks.

I agree with the second part but not the first. As you can see, the piggie actually adds to the rating, (It gives a bias towards 0) but still can be changed.
