Annoying Users

category: general [glöplog]
shane: i ignore pityfull fools in the real world or i punch them till they bleed to death if they keep acting like insulting irrational morons. unfortunatly the internet equivalent is censorship and dos attacks. i rather avoid childish behaviour and restrain myself to ignoring. but its kinda hard to ignore what you are forced to see all the time due to mod and dev duties.

how about you add a "shitlist" textbox on the account/custom page, where you can add usernames separated by commas. next to it could be a "make css" (or "make shitlist" :) button that could look up the userids and auto-generate a css file you can save on your local machine.

PS: The weird thing is I agree with your thinking.

I think people should have the freedom to ignore and not have things thrust in their face.

BUT - I have tried to be serious and start serious threads and its the so called "sensible" users of Pouet that start turning it into a discussion about beer at parties and pull it apart! That is annoying to me and to a lot of people who start threads but no one sees that.

I also get mega pissed when there are porno releases and explicit stuff in demos on here with no warning! We should have the freedom of choice to ignore those too.

I feel like some rules apply only to me and a few other guys on Pouet, but not to others.
andy: pr0nstahr censorship was implemented before css filtering idea surged, when ep started bothering me i just decided to quickly adapat the code to my current needs instead of looking for alternative solutions. maybe i shouldve indeed been more discrete about whom i censor, not letting them know and maybe not allowing everyone also to ignore them.

Actually, I was given the option of turning off your posts. That's not censorship. Censorship would be removing all your posts and not allowing anyone to see them at all. Giving people the option to filter you out is not censorship.

Also, it's not working, please to be fixing, I don't want to read any more of Shane's stuff. He has worn out his welcome with me with this spammage.

And Yes I turned it on, I don't want to read Clone #1801581's 'WAAAAAAAAAAAAH THE SCENE IS DEAD WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH' copy and paste from the original scene is dead post in 1018 BC.
good point, sir garbagetruck. there is actually no censorship going on whatsoever.

So I have a great news for you. You can use the CSS trickery explained in the FAQ to censor the users you consider moronic/irrelevant/pr0n/annoying. Enjoy pouet with your imaginary friends.

shane: thats couz i only act when something really annoys me, and i'm seemingly the only active dev around, seeing porn prods on the database doesnt annoy me much, seeing threads go into sceners beer discussions also doesnt, howehever: hearing people i never spotted at a demoparty or ever did a subjectivly decent demo, rant about their aunties and uncles and how to save the dead scene that they dont seem to even properly know, does.
also, some people who did do demos but like to abuse their bullshit'o'dump'to'annoy'others'o'meter for the sake of beeing bored or drunk equally annoys me.

like i said, nothing personal, you might be a great guy and all and me just not beeing able to cope with your sense of humour, but you usually annoy the living shit out of me when i'm on a bad day, and i have bad days way too often. -_-

Ok, I have turned it back on as it did NOT work like I thought it did. I got a message for each post an 'annoyinguser' made, which was even more annoying than many of their posts.

I will now be fixing my css and finding some way to make it easy to transport between my 3 machines that I use.

I'll give everyone equal time, but when they cross the line into 'only posts waaaaaah the scene is dead waaaaaaah' I'm turning them off.
it's funny that in each and every online forum, sooner or later the topic of "censorship" comes up. which is not a bad thing in and of itself. in an unmoderated forum, every user has the power to abuse the system (by flooding); in a moderated forum, the admins have the monopoly for abuse (by censoring).

the thing is: usually the censorship complaint is brought up by those least deserving of free speech: those who want the freedom to spam the boards and talk about themselves endlessly.

It looks like that some guys think the masses cannot think capable of the ability for decision at their own.

Frightening !

I'm able to do and i bet for, that any other, too.

I addition, i don't have any problem with the possibility, that my 'deep mental words' could be suppressed by anybody who don't like my nose.

In my eyes that leads to the conclusion, that PS is right.

Sir Garbagetruck: put your CSS tricks in a distant file, and in the userContent.css file on all you computers put something like :
Code:@import "http://yourdomain/myPouetCssRules.css";
Hope that helps

the human race haven't the power of being self-moderated. every war, even a forum one, is based on this fault we (sadly) have.

Call me lazy, but I'd rather just click "ignore pr0nstahr" to ignore people who post pornography than look up all their usernames and add them to a CSS file when I first come across a post from them. Besides, then I won't have to see their posts in the first place unless I see it before ps marks their accounts. Heck, a friend of mine joined so that she could set that option and then use Pouet.net without stumbling across nudity.

true ;/ well let's just say the most important message is on the other signs anyway :)

yeah it is shopped indeed, tbh i'm just feeling i wasted my time on it now that you spotted it so fast so i'm trying to compensate my ego by wasting your time. (goddamn that was a long sentence, definitely on a road to nowhere here... ;))
