BeOS Demos

category: general [glöplog]

It seems that in every new environment I am getting in, I am having problems even to run a simple demo..

I tried to run MegaDemoIV but returned me the message "This application has encountered an error which prevents it from running". This happened with few other BeOS demos too, like Backslash, e.t.c.. which makes me thing that I am the one who is not doing something right. But I just don't know what the hell is going on with an alternative OS like BeOS and don't know what's the possible reason of the error and what I should do... I hope someone has worked a bit with BeOS and can give me a possible answer to that..

I had also problems with Doom for BeOS. "W_InitFiles:no files found" But I copied all the files, among with the Wad in the BeOS HD (The 500 virtual image the give you. I tried to put it in a directory, or run it from the mounted windows partition too.. but nothing)

To encounter problems several times, means that there is something I don't know about BeOS and I have to do this to be able to run more stuff without problems. What is it?

probably you have a quite different version of beos than those binaries
were built against;; or eventually they were compiled strangely for a different processor (say, perhaps they use intel only instructions)

As I remember I downloaded versions called intel version R4 or something. What is this R4 thing it says?
I think this was the good version since there was no other versions that sounded like PC or something (There was PPC as I remember and others,. I don't remember... but they were not PC. I thought the Intel Rx version is the one I should download..)
Is it a wrong verzion?
