Does anyone find the reviews helpful?

Do any low (or high) bandwidth glöppers find the demo reviews/comments useful when choosing productions to download?

Being a high bandwidth user, I just download all Windoze productions that were added since my last visit. But it's quite intrigung to see how my opinion stacks up against others. (Especially when reviews are very mixed.)
yeah, with that phat pipe of mine at the office I leech like crazy, so the reviews are more like exchanging opinions to me. but in the good old jobless home-modem days, I paid attention to what people said. even if I leeched everything, I leeched the stuff they considered good first.

the reviews doesn't mean jackass to me - i tend to go more for prods with screenshots though :-)
I don't care of opinions usually to download specific demos. The thing that works is either a screenshot showing me the possible style/type of demo, name of the group (Either some well known groups I always liked, or groups from scene friends of mine, e.t.c..) too many thumbs up, discussion and flames that make me want to check it out and see what the whole fuzz is all about, e.t.c..

Comments/Reviews are usefull for the creators of a demo who really want to hear opinion/feedback about their own productions.

yes
reviews help me to increase my skills and to do better demos (i hope ,] )
reviews help me to download only useful for my mind demos (new effects, cool design, good things, flamewar prods...)
screenshots are very important too
i hope review can help other demomakers to do better for their next prod.
if i see lots of thumbs down and a crappy screenshot, i know that i won't give this demo a chance. but it's important to visit www.monostep.org from time to time, because if a demo is really good, it will usually show up in thier gallery sooner or later.

If there's a product from a less well-known group and zero comments I don't bother downloading, but if there's at least few thumbs up the chances are bigger. Of course then there needs to be somebody brave enough to download it anyways. As for me I just simply don't have time or lust to pick out the cream from the top. :)

Also remember to visit http://demoo.calodox.org.

I like commets. It gives me an idea on what other people think about prods in general and my own of course. Also, it's a good place to discuss about recent demos. Good screenshots are important too.

The rating system is also good, although everyone uses it differently and that has created lots of problems. However I don't think it should be changed either.

i don´t like comments, i don´t download demos/intros becouse of some spoken words from "Mr.xxx ABC". many, many comments are very very stupid. sometimes it seems that only internet viewer write some comments, which never relay know how hard is be to make a good production. and many bad demos are popular and good demos gets "thums down". it´s the "Breite Masse" effect. 2 or 3 comments are good. but if you read 100 comments, you will get no information.

take a look at http://www.monostep.org [self HTML´ling suckx]

Pics are enough. You must here musik and effekts, you can´t talk about it.

I agree.

Well, I won't download a prod if everybody says it sucks - unless it still seems somehow interesting. And if people say in the reviews it didn't work without a Geforce or needs a 1GHz CPU, I know not to download it.

If U want to see how useful can be comments/Reviews, try Amok by skarab for instance...So I like comments, and screenshots too (nice screenshots can hide a shitty prod)!

i find comments quite interesting, because by them you can judge who's got a similar taste to yours. there are several people here which like almost the same prods as i do, so if this person thumbs something up, you can be relatively sure that it's *really* good :) and if everyone thumbs up specific prods, it doesn't necessarily mean that you personally find it great (in my case, see myworld or glon243 for example).

I'm on a painful dialup connection (you might have heard, heh...) so I don't download many demos at all. Anything 256b or less I'll look at, and most 4k intros I'll get and all. I'll at least look at most 64k intros, especially if it's from a well-known group.. then, provided it'll run on my comp, is pretty well liked and has a decent screenshot I'll d/l and run it. Demos, generally I ignore... don't really have the time to watch a 5mb download going. If it's from a very well-known group or has lots of comments or is in the top 10 or something then yeah, I'll probably get it..

So yeah, reviews kind of matter.
