Enjoyed a bit when it was a thing back in 2010.
I was always curious about Minecraft, but to me it looks like a severely limited version of Lego, with not much to actually do. Also, it's almost all young children who tend to play it, so no appeal for adults like me.

I admit most of my MC enjoyment came out of Super Hostile.

I was working on a Wild entry using minecraft (like a demotool) myself, for the last syntax party, but fell ill :(

Cool, Hadn't heard of super hostile, might give it a go.

Minecraft is in no way a game for kids only. :p
It´s not even a game...it´s about playing around with mods...which let you do anything you want in MC. ;)
Simply choose your mods of choice (or even better a premade and thus balanced modpack) and start having fun...exploring worlds, fighting creatures...or build some nice house/town/castle/spaceship/whatever...or build a funtional computer yourself.
It´s completely up to you what you do in Minecraft!
To me it´s the best way ever to calm down after a hard working day!

Simply get the Twitch-App to get access to hundreds of modpacks, invest 20 bucks into MC (and not a single cent ever after!) and start having fun! ;)

Survival with mods or bust. ;)

I use the curse client myself, you can make up your own modpacks and add/remove single mods from Packs aswell :)

Pouet mc server when?

B1aSz: curse has been renamed as twitch, it's the same app

Gargaj: Yup, those maps were a masochistic pleasure of mine too :)

Just to clarify:
The Twitch-App was known as Curse-Client until some weeks ago. ;)
It´s exactly the same, just with a different owner (Twitch) and graphics now! (also the bugs are removed finally, hehe! :) )
Just so noone gets confused!

ringofyre: The problem with a server for all demosceners would be that everyone wants his favourite mods to be included then...leading to a laggy world thanks to too many mods that aren´t balanced to work with eachother properly. Even trying to settle for a specific existing and balanced modpack would end disastrous (this is pouet!) and/or would take a long time! ;)
For newcomers that want to jump in with a modpack directly i can only recommend to find a modpack with quests included...this way one can learn all the mods that are included atleast.

There are also Modpacks with very many mods but you are completely on your own to find out how everything works...and you´ll miss out on the good things for sure this way! ;)
My only advice for those packs would be to make use of those two keys:

"R" (when hovering mouse over an item in the inventory) -> shows "Recipe" of this item, if there is one (some items cannot be crafted, only found in the world, f.e. in chests or as drops from enemies)

"U" (when hovering mouse over an item in the inventory) -> shows "Usage" ...all the items that can be crafted that use this item. This is the most-useful key i´d say, as you simply have to use it everytime you stumble upon a new item you never saw before to see what it can be used for! ;)

These keys should work in most newer modpacks that have NEI or JEI, which both are item-management-mods. NEI = NotEnoughItems; JEI = JustEnoughItems

There are also Quest-Driven-Modpacks, that are played more like an RPG than a Sandbox. Those are fun but to learn Minecraft i cannot recommend them! ;) Especially not in Hardcore-Mode, hehe!
we could all just join some random server and take it over 4chan style :P

I'm just thinking of how to actually give people the server address, without it being publicly seen (and Greifed), A website with an application form? IRC? iono
Mabye a private facebook Group? - that seems like a good option now I think of it.

and of course the cost involved (I only pay like $5USD a month for max 10 players at a time), I guess could start off small and see were/how it goes?

also server location? i'm in Australia and had to install some lag remover mods to be able to play properly, server is in the U.S.
Or build our own and host on untergrund, could that be a possibility?

The "computer" you see in Knoeki´s Screenshot is either from AppliedEnergistics(2) or RefinedStorage...
...both do the same: you have a Terminal to access all of your stored Items, which you store on Harddrives that are connected to the Terminal. I cannot think of playing without it anymore...modpacks come with thousands of different items, and having them all in different chests, even if well-sorted ends in opening/closing chests forever until you found all the items you need right now...with a Terminal that lets you access all your items at once its a matter of a second to craft a thing instead of minutes...it even let´s you fill in the recipe with the needed items when you Shift-LeftClick the little +Sign while looking at a recipe in NEI/JEI (and while in the Terminal at the same time)...super-convenient! ;)
If you still want some items in some chest or other storage you can do that and simply connect this storage to your Terminal with an ExternalStorageBus, this way the items are accessible the normal way aswell as from the Terminal. :)

I even went so far to cheat a Terminal each time i start a new world/modpack...even before i build my first little hut/house!
I hate chests, mostly thanks to their annoying sound they make when opening them...when you search an item and have to open 10+ chests it annoys the hell outta me! ;)

Another Starter-Tip: The first mod you should get into is "Tinker´s Construct"...it lets you craft way better Tools/Weapons than the vanilla ones...very customizable...upgradable...extra-effects...faster...luckier drops...etc...etc.
You should either get a Tutorial-Book in your Inventory about it once you start a new game or stumble upon one pretty fast.

Generally watching either Mod-Tutorials on Youtube is also a good idea if a mod comes without a Tutorial/Book.
Some people watch Let´s Plays of Big Youtubers and play along with them, learning the game this way. Most people seem to follow "Direwolf20", as he has an own FTB-Modpack in the Twitch-Launcher, named "FTB Direwolf20" or sth alike.
