Slaine is back ! my current project bathofblood 2d Shmup with a fucking style!

Hello all, It's been a long time!

Some of you know me as Amiga demomaker " Slaine" in a distant past. Today I 'm working on a project with 2 other guys on a 2D shmup with amazing gameplay in a dark universe ;-). It's a good old thing ( as we are influenced by game as last ressort, R-type...) with a new style and some inovations.

We just create our Studio and raise "Bath Of Blood" ( we call it BOB^^). We wiil realese a demo and a crowfounding soon.

If only the the fucking style was lit properly.
It looks very flat in the videos; the billboards are visibly panning around.

and the animations look silly. it's like watching southpark
The videos look like a cool game with lits of content - but yeah it was difficult for me aswell to distingush between front and back

No offense, but it looks... amateurish. Hopefully, the gameplay will be good enough to offset the lack of fucking style.

I had only seen one of the videos on the official site, but after checking the screenshots and videos on Steam, the impression is actually worse than I thought :\

Why ?
Why do you do that ?
Don't you guys, the dev team, see that it looks all flat and it's a billboard fiesta.

Heck, the sea in the part with the battle ships looks like it's just an image scrolling by. You're not on an 8Mhz computer. Go wild. Even a super cheap waving grid of 200 triangles, would look a lot better.

It's a shame because you obviously put a lot of efforts into the project.

Looking at two old shooters, Gradius V or Ikaruga, should give an idea of where the fucking bar is for a 2D SHMUP with fucking style. Doesn't matter if the visuals are 2D, 3D, 27D, the gameplay is 2D, and using a little bit of 3D for the visuals gives tons of things for "free" that are a PITA to do in pure 2D.

AAAaaaah so disappointed to see wasted talent.

I unfortunately have to agree with what others wrote so far:
- there's absolutely no perception of depth (there's parallax plans but there's no fog of color change so it does not really work)
- the style is not very coherent (a lot of super dark stuff and your shinny space ship)
- lack of alpha, specially on things like explosions that look horrible
- super dark in some places, can't see anything
- ground bosses don't have shadows, just dark blobs under, so they don't really look like they are on the ground

Imo, there's a good base, but you should really revamp the visual integration before releasing it.

I'am sebastien, part of the Bathofblood 3 men team.
First I must Confess the "Fucking" was my idea (epic fail, shame on me), it was a bad one as I did not understand very well the pace/spirit of pouet.net. You can joke freely on that, it's fair.

Then, thx all for your feebacks, even those which hurt^^. it's a precious help for us in any case, really !
What you've seen is taken from a prototype made on a poor engine. We work, now, since a while on unity in C#,then we believe the result will be more efficiant on all aspects.

We release a demo in few months, so you will be able to discover the ingame content, how the gameplay works and why it will be fun. We are aware that these elements are not understandable yet, hope that it will be a good surprise then.

Yes, we plan a win/mac/linux realese. Then xboxlive and PSN if succes came^^. We want to bring it on mac and linux because there is so few titles on these platforms that we guess lot of people are waiting for shmups.

Hi all,
This is a battle cruiser named IRELLE. Multiples tracking lasers set the rhythm as the main beam will brings the mélodic solo. I guess The song will be catchy! I hope you are ready to dancing?
