If you had your own interpretation of the Bible or even dared to read it outside church that would have given you a ticket to a burning stake or prison a 100+ years ago. You could always argue that Islam is behind its times but there are quite some Christian places in the world (parts of USA, parts of Eastern Europe) that are behind their times as well.

There sure are a lot of ignorant racists around :( I mean, sure, the fundamentalists are generally a problem (whether they're muslim, christian or amiga) but judging things by a vocal minority, or worse, a few out of context quotes.. well, how about we judge the scene by the actions of ep? You might like or not islam, but... here you have some data. It is the second largest religion and it looks that, by the way it is growing, it might be in some years or decades the first.

By other hand, some people doesn't have artistical feelings, but the most of the people accept artistical feelings are *real*, feelings that some people experiment. Why it is so hard to accept that some people have religious feelings, even if you don't experiment it? Well, I suppose it is easier to say that faith is a silly thing than accepting faith is a feeling you have not developed.

Try to think about all of this for a while. Then, tell me if you continue thinking that muslims sucks or not. I'm sure and I hope you say not. Lets try to concentrate in the TRUE problem of the world; the french people. If there were a red button that when pressed would erase all french people, I would press it without any doubt.

I find it almost as hard to accept that there are still Stalinists in the world after the historical record of the USSR. But, these people sometimes do have (at least shaky) reasons and can argue for their political beliefs. Yet, you're still allowed to criticise them and call them deluded. Why is it, then, that when people have religious beliefs - and can't present a single reasonable argument for those beliefs - you're expected to be tolerant and respectful?

If anything is offensive, it's that pie chart. Atheism is not a religion.

Atheism is a religion, it's the belief in the unproven that there exist no god. Also, by the way they talk, they can get quite fanatical about it at times :)

I don't think anyone here minds personal religious experiences. But you should understand that they are exactly that: PERSONAL religious experiences. That's why I don't understand organized religion. It has nothing to do with experiencing religious things on a personal level but it's just following a herd of ignorant people that are trying to bend the world to their set of rules.

That's also the big difference between religious and atheist people. Most atheist people look relatively neutral to problems and they will try to come up with a reasonable solution that would be beneficial for most people (yes I honestly believe this) while religious people just say: look, in my holy book it says it MUST be like this, no discussion possible.

1) the bible and the qur'an should be taken for what they are : interesting 'historical' tales.

2) an undeniable fact is that religion plays a major role in the lives of most people around the world and thus can't be ignored.

3) religious believes should stay at home, politics are about sensible decisions only.

4) every teenager on this mad planet should watch Monty Python's Life of Brian at school : by far the best philosophical movie ever made!

5) french people like giving lessons to the whole world... damn annoying but usually what they say should be said :p

6) sarkozy wants to seize the crisis opportunity and US elections to reform the global capitalism and annihilate tax black holes... if he ever succeeds in convincing all the other countries and the USA, it will be a revolutionary milestone!
