skrebbel: nVidia gpus have specialized video-decoding hardware. There's a cuda library (cuvid) that can be used to interface with that hardware. Using shaders or cuda for jpeg/mpeg decoding is not (yet) useful, I tried to do that for 3-4 months at my workplace. GPUs are made for massively-parallel computations, and jpeg/mpeg streams have RLE and Huffman encoding, which require a sequential decoding.

I need to explain why I provoke you in the first place. I remember when you were trying to finish your demo for nvScene. I really wanted you to finish it just to learn that making a demo nowadays is not an easy cake. But as I have seen you haven't learned a bit. That's why I can say that you are a lousy coder with big mouth only. And I guess some people on this forum may also think this way. It's because scene is a very 'awful' society. You gain your respect by making demos and not by talking on forums. And in your case I must say that you haven't got too much of authority. In other words I can only be pissed on keops because of the type of person he is. On the other hand he is one of the best coders and I realize that, so I must count my words, and even so, I won't convince too much people here that he is wrong. In your case - you have done practically no good productions. So in my eyes on scene you are NOTHING.

I'd say that my admittance to have underestimated the time and effort I needed to get done what I wanted done could be seen as me having learnt a lesson, right? As Okkie put it, at least I had the balls to admit that my busy life really didn't leave me much time for doing a production I deemed good enough to release anymore.

Well there were better times for me scene-productivity-wise, sure, long ago. But I guess you've either forgotten or are chosing to forget. Peoples lives take different turns and for some it doesn't include utterly boring 3DS-player style demos with shaders copied directly from SIGGRAPH papers and Shader Gem books. When it comes to respect I'd rather watch a Byterapers demo or something fashionable by Orange.
But hey, to each his own.
For me you're just fun to pick on because you tend to behave like a dick and I honestly don't think that anything you did provides sufficient backup. It's odd that this very scene you despise in one way is on the other hand the only source of self-esteem and pride you use as leverage here?
