Demoscene Outreach Tour 2007

category: general [glöplog]
Okay Gloom, I think there's a BIG misunderstanding, here. :) I am completely pleased that you guys are doing outreaching for the Demoscene, especially in such great place as SF (with Pixar, NVidia, LucasFilms and so on).
Hell, I don't know if you read it but I've done some kind of outreaching effort too : check it there. If you read just the first paragraph in the "afterwords" part, you'll see that I deeply share your views. :D
Go guys, and make us proud in California !

Actually, at the end of the second-to-last chapter in my novella, the hero (Tycoon) talks about the unexpected outreach he did for the Demoscene, and he explains why it can be perceived as a threat by some sceners. :)
Yeah I know, this is shameless self-promotion, and I don't care... :D

Isn't it what this thread is all about anyway ? :)

Oh wait, Keops, we also need the proper musical background to maximise the impact. :) Now THAT's "showing off in SF".

Gloom, go promote whatever you want, as long as you don't bring any more girls into the scene! Alright? :)

can u pass my private messages around ?

tell nvidia to make vidcards that suck far less power in order to save mother earth,

tell ILM & LucasFilms to stop making wasted virtuoso sfx for lame hollywood turkeys like transformers and start making LucasArts games again (star wars games don't count),

tell Pixar they just rox :)

kthx!

kkthx!

The UK is the most seismically active in the world, not California. It's just they have stronger ones.

Tis true, you know.

I sure hope you're just kidding. If not, you're waaaaaaaaaaaay off.

That only goes down to Richter magnitude 4 - due to the coal mining industries of the past gazillion years, the UK has quite a few lower magnitude 'quakes every year. I think they're normally classed as 2.5 and over, but when we had one in North Notts, that was only 2.3 but still made it.

Sorry dude, you're still waaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

From this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_earthquakes_in_the_United_Kingdom

Quote:
On average several hundred earthquakes are detected by the British Geological Survey each year, but almost all are far too faint to be felt by humans. Those that are felt generally cause very little damage.

In comparison, Japan has approximately 1 000 noticeable earthquakes each year, and close to 10 000 smaller quakes only measurable by equipment. Sorry, but "several hundred" doesn't cut it.
Damn, you kids just keep hijacking this thread like there's no tomorrow.
You're waaaaaaaaaaaay off topic. :D

Nope. This is a tangent, not a quantum leap.
Nice to see that we are making waves though.

*cue cliché stand-up drum-hits here*

So you guys basically get free lunchs in cool CG companies in california, meeting people, eating lobster, drinking champagne and bragging about your work, without forgetting to drop a business card along with a résumé ?

Nice one, quite crafty idea you got there ;)

Gloom : are these S-waves or P-waves ? :D

Sorry, geek humour.

Keops: If you take away the lobster, champagne and resumé-dropping, you're pretty close. Seriously; we all have jobs. This is a pure scene gig. :) (though, if I happen to be close to Wall-Mart tomorrow morning when their Black Friday sale starts (HD-DVD player for 98 dollars!) I'm not really going to complain about that :)

ello

we are doing some demoscene outreach right here in marseille. we tried to reach out to several people here, but strangely enough they decided to clean up the turds on the pavement first. due to the many turds on marseille pavements, analysts predict that the next demo from marseille will not be released for another 47 to 53 years. :(

(note: i am not trying to make a point here. at all.;))

I really hope you're showing some non-mainstream stuff too...

Steeler, Gloom, Gargaj: Bucketloads of respect to you for pulling this off. You guys know how I think about outreach, and I think this totally kicks ass.

visy: We're showing the productions we feel will hit the closest to home at the different places we visit. But no; we're not showing 11 minute long noise demos and such, if that was your question. :)

Axel: thanks man, that means a lot!
