Opinion wanted on next MindCandy
category: general [glöplog]
Hey guys, we think we've got one more MindCandy DVD in us, so we wanted to know what you thought of "C64" being the focus of Volume 3. We were thinking of 3+ hours of C64 demos (probably 4+, as they should compress pretty well). All the other stuff would still be there, like random/jukebox DVD programming, featurette, group commentary+subtitles, etc.
Thoughts? Hugs? Fuckings? MindCandy is for the scene, so let us know.

c64 would be the most logical step, but then you'd have to make a 4th MindCandy about Atari! :D
Okkie: what a brilliant idea :>
absolutey.. c64, then atari!
Yeah, definitely, I would buy them both :-)
Why not combine C64 and Plus/4?
vic-20!
There are several CBM demos DVD's (C64 *and* C16/+4) out there and I don't know any GBA compilations :( Correct me if wrong.
I think combining C64 with other commodore computers would be nice, because with 4 hours like you say it would eventually have some repetitive demos (in a way).
A nice sid music jukebox, and some C64 gfx would rock too. And of course some sort of documentary.

ok, while this discussion is out there.. we did bring up the possibility of adding plus/4 and vic-20 demos into the c64 mix.. it's just a matter of getting some equipment over to trixter's house, and making his job with them as easy as possible.. but you guys can help with that, right? :) we'd like to *not* spend 4 years on this again so we're aiming to keep the capturing process as simple as possible.
as for atari.. also brought up, but i just don't know if it stands any chance of selling on our home continent (which would, you know, be nice).. c64 still has merit around here (the ntsc scene lasted longer than the pc scene, really) but an atari st movement will be harder to find. i kinda wanna get back to modern stuff myself.

that's true.
also, will you eventually go HD?
You bring up an important point... NTSC vs. PAL difference is more important on C64 than on Amiga. You can't make a mixed DVD, if you want to add NTSC demos you have to convert the others to PAL, and vice versa. The image will suffer a lot with that.
An "others" compilation would also rock (PDAs, portables... platforms with not enough demos).
i drool at the thought of a properly captured high resolution video of robotic liberation.
Phoenix & Trixter: if it's only about capturing the Atari demos, a lot of people can help you there. Evil/DHS has become a master in that field :)
I was just watching Mindcandies 1 & 2 the other day and thought it would be nice to have a c64 demo compilation of the same quality in the shelf. Wouldn't mind VIC-20 and 264 stuff either :).
A double sided DVD can use NTSC on the other side and PAL on the other, can it not?

what xernobyl said. Or... what about a non-platform-specific"<4k edition" or something?
Just food...

I wouldn't mind if you do Mindcandy 3 with C64 demos, but I've heard that the existing C64 DVDs don't sell very well. Personally I would prefer some kind of console demo DVD. Mixed stuff from PS1/PS2, XBox, Dreamcast, some handhelds (GBA for example) etc.
One thing that has interested me recently is seeing creative and impressive demos on platforms less well-known for their demos, like the Oric, CPC, Spectrum, Vic-20, Acorn RISC PC, (NES/PC-Engine), etc etc... Why not a "top demos..." compilation from various machines?
Of course, capturing video and ensuring quality would be difficult... but I am free to dream, right?

to call spectrum "less known for its demos" is quite ridiculous though. :P
stage7 i had a gba compilation in mind too, actually there exists a pretty crappy gbc and gba demoshow somewhere in the darkest corners of my harddisk. but everything in pretty bad shape and not in releaseable form. let's see... if i have some sparetime in the next 20 years, maybe i can get it done :D
I also dig the idea of having a 64k (perhaps combined with 4k) intro dvd. Perhaps then there would be finally a proper video version of Hplus. :)
C64 compilation would be nice with maybe some vic20 stuff included, but I don't find the other suggested platforms so interesting that they could carry a whole DVD.
PC 64 k intros.
C-64 coz it was huge in usa and you could get lots of money ;)
