From personal experience I recommend MS software hater - so 'test'. I get paid the same as the devs, don't ever have to work 16 hour days, and have enough slack time to be able to whine on pouet. I'm learning how to build a 3d engine from scratch (I work in a graphics team) but I don't have to fix a million stupid 'the widget won't copy and paste from here to here' bugs. No one ever thinks test sounds sexy, but the money is just as sexy as dev money.

game producer: I suppose it depends what you produce, but it can usually be quite tedious. This can be a place to end if you are not that good as a programmer or artist and therefore you fit in no other role in this industry.

Now if a producer has creative responsibilities at the same time then it is a different thing altogether. Otherwise enjoy your Gant charts and Excel spreadsheets...

From my personal experience: Try compiler development or electronic design automation (EDA): You'll be able to put a lot of the things you learned during your CS study into practice, get to use/learn all kinds of interesting algorithms and optimizations and learn a lot about the language you are building a compiler for and about computer languages in general which may also be helpful in your future career. I work for a commercial compiler vendor but it often feels like working in a scientific or research environment due to all the new developments in compiler technology which you have to keep track of so you get the best of both worlds.

Navis: hehe apparently you are suffering under the orders of a master at Gant & Excel =D

but isn't a game producer often a game designer too ?

and in the case of jade raymond (uhuh) she did some game programming as far as wiki knows, and now with her *natural* gift she does also a lot of PR ;D

About Jade: So what does it matter, she doesnt have a dick, and she can do PR? Does that make job awesome... "yea right".
Every job sucks, some jobs just suck more and code slaves get more money. Money .. you can buy best happiness on the earth. And so what.. you stuck some office coding something, you can still use your math skills to solve some creative problems. Isn't that what you wanted? What the fuck. Stelthz shut up...

Most people here dont look like that and are of a different gender. So "token software developer girl for pr purposes" is not a job many people can persue.

If you skip the looks bit we can all do it.

knos: to be honest i'm more amused by the fact that jade raymond tends to overshadow the game she is supposed to promote (Assassin's Creed) : vg journalists are asking for more jade photos instead of game screenshots :D

As a woman in gaming you could also get engaged with some game producer psycho who pays to have you turned into a blonde bimbo:

Zest: Nah, I worked with some really nice producers when I was in the industry. Still, I think that the title can be confusing.

stevie *killcreek* case has nothing to do with jade *killersmile* raymond, she basicly was 'only' a quaker... while jade raymond got a CS degree at McGill University. stevie case is an american (sorry) while jade raymond is from quebec and she speaks the sexiest frenglish ever! :>

the game industry is used to hiring bimbo models to promote their games, and that's why jade raymond is surprising : she does make the games and she did code!

from wiki: "While filming an interview for a Star Wars game, kids were apparently coming up asking for her autograph. Seeing her surrounded by Stormtroopers, fans thought she was Natalie Portman."
