I love it when a minimalistic piece like this makes you forget about the restrictions but sucks me in because of its own artistic merits. Much more than "just" a technical achievement.

Let me spoil the cheer-leading soup a little with an unenthusiastic 'meh' :)

Because all the clever tech wrangling (and excellent documentation) still leaves me with a glitch intro, were neither video nor audio are particularly interesting or engaging. Not to mention that roughly the same experience (sans thin layers of projected story arc) can be had for a handful of bytes on this machine; I find things like Wallflower to be still miles ahead when it comes to WTF factor and satisfaction of nerd sensibilities. But that might be just me. :)

Oh yes. This is really something!
rulez added on the 2017-04-21 11:49:00 by spkr spkr
I used to think like that ^^^ during the compo, then I realized 256b is still 256b, it doesn't become more just because you have a built in hardware synth.
rulez added on the 2017-04-21 11:49:39 by Gargaj Gargaj
Absolutely mind boggling work. As many before I'm way to dumb to actually *get* what is happening, but this was mesmerising.

Also LFT, I'm totally reading your write-up in your voice and it's great :D

Batshit nuts!

the part where the bass line changes key dropped my jaw more than the entire 4k and 64k compos of this year's revision combined.

the writeup doesn't make it any less magic.

I don't know. It's cool but I'm not exactly head over heels over this despite the technical merits. Still one of the better entries in the compo. A mild thumb.
rulez added on the 2017-04-23 01:08:44 by noby noby
Not too impressed, since i did a similar thing a while ago in 128 bytes ;)

speaCore 128b

But i guess it's harder to pull off on c64, and the write up is enlighting.
(to me, as a not-yet-c64-sizecoder)

and the bass sounds quite cool, so have a thumb :)

Huh? I was sure I had given a thumbs up to this one. Well, fixed.

This is amongst the best demos of all time to me. One thing that I find particularly interesting in this 256b demo is that it not only has structure, it actually ends! Making this much more than most 256b intros which feel "just" like amazing tricks.
