• In this thread the somewhat sucking thing is that even though there's no post saying that the emu author character was a clueless red pilled "lolz i fixed your work with AI" jerk, people automatically seem to label them as such.

  LLMs also generate stories, with some useful tool call tokens in between. :)
  
  Statistical model predicts the next token. Suprisingly it works very well. Companies went too quickly from uni research to business mode. Data has been stolen, but the models are already optimized. Not sure if they are getting better, but already at this level they are incredibly useful. It's not like it's some medical data that was collected by unethical means. Come on.
  
  And the fact that they try to make this a business, should finally reveal the hypocricy of the very very top rich (investors) to everybody. It's not that long ago when kids were put on trial when they copied couple of Metallica MP3s. But now it's suddenly completely fine to just steal the collective human knowledge and make into a proprietary product?(1) I hope our democratic system holds up.
  
  The tool is definitely dangerous though. Some people go completely crazy, and it leads to skill erosion unless you actively maintain them etc. Using an useful tool leads to more use of the tool, but here one should remember that the tool is corrosive to oneself, their fellow beings and to the environment. (atleast for now) It's not a hammer. It's a tool that simulates human conversation, because - as it turned out - a very convincing looking conversation or coding/debugging session can be generated with just a couple of (billion) matmuls and sampling from the generated probability distribution!
  
  There's always mentally deranged people failing to separate fantasy from reality. That is a different problem. Generally I think it will be fine as long as we remember that these are not "sentient beings" or even "them" but instead models of conversation and problem solving stories. The language how we talk about them is important. "They" did not write anything. It should be "I prompted a model. Model generated this program." But yeah, it's hard since the UI is chat-like and we lack the vocabulary.
  
  "They" are not polite. And "they" don't think you had a great intuition. It's just how the parameters are optimized. Manipulation, yes, but not from the model as a sentient being, but the people behind running the business and picking what kind of things to weight when optimizing.
  
  And also please let's not fight. This feels almost like American politics now. This is exactly what "they" want. Divide and conquer. Don't be lemons, be peaches instead.
  
  I'll end with a quote from famous scientist Dr. Kleiner (retconned)
