- intro Amiga AGA Amiga OCS/ECS Game Under Again by Lemon.
- Fantastic stuff once again. I guess this must truly be game over/under for this challenge. Congrats! I still need to fire up the debugger again and figure out what the new trick was. I must admit it wasn't immediately obvious :-)
Regarding the maximum visible width, Photon helped me do some hardware testing, and if I’m getting this right, our conclusion was that that 369 pixels were actually visible on a CRT, the reason being that even though the RGB signal can include 384 pixels, 15 of them are before the HSYNC high signal that turns the beam on. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was more to this though. - rulezadded on the 2025-09-21 14:57:07

- @Blueberry No it's absolutely not a width record. The reasons I made it this wide are:
- just for fun in the context of the other records, even though it doesn't count for anything :-)
- to see how close we can get to Evil's 400px Atari version
- making it as wide as possible has a some benefit for the total pixel count (ssshhh!)
I based this on Photon's assertion that 384 can be displayed on some CRTs. I appreciate the irony of this given the history, and I'm also not trying to pass the buck in any way. Although I don't own the hardware to verify this, the fact that vAmiga emulator rendered all columns gave me some reassurance. It really does sound like I need to do a more reasonable version that can definitely be fully displayed.
I've been playing with VHPOSW tricks for *other things* and I agree it's a pain in the arse! - isokadded on the 2025-08-05 15:42:48

Is 384 pixels the screen hardware limit? I dont think I've ever done anything beyond 352.
I believe it is based on Photon's Coppershade article, and I was taking his word for it that all pixels can be displayed on some CRT monitors. If this proves not to be the case I will of course adjust my claim, and could potentially release a version with a similar pixel count in a less ridiculous width! - isokadded on the 2025-08-04 12:21:38

- @Optimus it started from a tardigrade in Photon's original, but nobody wants to see that!

I'm curious what "one step too far for me" means
I suppose it means it was something I ruled out in my attempts because in my mind it didn't count. We probably all have slightly different ideas of what compromises are acceptable, but you're right that nobody specified this for this record.
You're also right that there are lots of potential records, and I still think that others are worth exploring, even if this is the end of the road for 'max columns at any cost'.
I have absolute respect for everyone attempting this challenge, and had no intention to take away from anyone's achievements by voicing my thoughts on this. - isokadded on the 2025-07-29 13:26:47
