@all who expect to see a wild, fast-paced, dubstebbish whoop-di-whoop badass kicker: this was never meant to be one. We wanted to create something more stylish and ambient for all of you. First raw cuts were even much longer :D
Yes, it was much longer. Effort was spent cutting it down to a point where people would actually like it. I guess the party people and other people would have got bored. It was a mistake releasing WIP shots, I should have put more work into what actually was disclosed at early times as las said. From the start it was intended to be a nice even paced journey, progressing in a logical progression from one scene to the next in terms of impact.
Quote:but all in all this is a very splendid and polished prod.
That was the goal. The goal was to have something that had effort put into it, and minor details, such as the synced blips at the beginning. One thing I didn't like was I should have took the concept of FFT based syncing a bit more and tied it to the objects as well, but that didn't work out in testing. Personally, I didn't mind the original length of the original prototype, but then people I guess have different opinions, which is cool, so in the process of refining it, the prod length was drastically cut and whole scenes were removed.
Development was pretty nice, I just used Gargaj's livecoding tool for all prototyping which made stuff super easy. Triace was awesome with the soundtrack, we worked constantly side by side to get details in the soundtrack to spec and sync, plus the aformentioned cutting down of length. Everyone in the group gave hints and ideas, which was nice tool, so it was a group effort.
I'm glad some people liked it in the end though. To me it was disappointing that we were the only entry, but oh well, the oldskool compo of Flashback was truly epic with a lot of awesome entries. Syntax will be interesting since the compos there are all combined to newskool and oldskool compo splits, which makes it very cool to compete against full sized prods.
I've been pondering a while to try out oldskool coding on the C64. I'd be really happy to get out something for Syntax, considering my current schedule. - isokadded on the 2015-08-04 05:23:23
