- 256b MS-Dos we are lost by Sensenstahl
- Best in the compo, and one of your best in general. Great back and white tones and uses all the shortcomings of the category to its advantage. No gimmicky sound, but focusing all the effort on what matters. I love the depth it has due to the blurring, and I love how it doesn't look "rendered" or "realtime" due to the lack of any real artifacts. Wonderfully organic.

- 4k Windows In The End by Fairlight [web]
- Extremely lovely! The technique is obvious, but the illusion and suspension of belief are extremely well held up. I'd even go as far as to say it's super enjoyable to watch all those "fake details"—while I know they're just aberrations and artifacts—construct imaginary information in my mind. Good thing you also were bold enough to have the camera take it's time to move around slowly.
I also like the music a lot more this time around (although please address that strange part at 1:25 if you do a final or something), though it simultaneously also becomes problematic as it conveys mystery and suspension, which the narrative never resolves. We just travel into this place, linger for a moment, and then exit without any kind of resolution. - isokadded on the 2019-05-02 12:42:20
- 4k JavaScript HBC-00017: Newton Protocol by ½-bit Cheese [web] & mfx [web] & Spinning Kids [web]
- Thanks for demonstrating that the bilateral blur can actually look good, maybe I'll try it at some point after all =)
The intro itself is enjoyable to me personally too. It both looks and sounds the part, extremely cold and austere, big props to dixan for pulling off a great track with these webgl synths!. My interest starts to wane in the second half though. The glossy materials (an importance sampled phong?) don't look very good, especially on the surrounding space. This is when it starts to diminish into a much more dull "tech demo" as well (which admittedly is fair enough since that's how you described it to me prior to the party anyway =)).
Grats for getting 1st place yet again... the streak continues, you've got the magic touch. - rulezadded on the 2019-05-02 12:01:44

- demo invitation Windows Transformer 3 by Limp Ninja [web]
- By far my favorite in the compo along with JvB and ronny's demo. Such clean and inventive visuals and the soundtrack is one of the most interesting pieces of music I've heard in Demoscene in several years. I would lament about it being another invitation, but having it typeset in Hangul actually helps a lot haha. Never stop.

- 64k Windows Vessel by Conspiracy [web]
- Vessel is all kinds of pretty. Well, actually, it's not all kinds of pretty, be certain fairly minimalist kinds. I mean, I get it, I get the metaphors and the symbolism and the distilled emotional payload and all that. But I struggle with coming up with anything to say about any of that, in fact, I have struggled for about two years now. The intro is too safe for its own good.
Visually it's typical Conspiracy quality. I especially like the near-orthographic canyon. I like the suspended flowers. My favorite visual is the brief breaking of the fourth wall just before the lull at about halfway through, where you see the whole realm from kind of a spectators point of view, revealing the ominous, tumultuous storm ahead. It's very brief I feel this is the shot that ultimately ends up stringing everything together, because every other point of view feels too idealized and choreographed for the audience to relate to the drama.
The ending is also effective. I love the editing there, the rapid succession of the shots is just right, wouldn't change a thing about it. The fact that you don't underline or exploit the sequence—like many others likely would've done—is the second moment of genius that elevates this above mediocrity.
I guess I'm ultimately happy that we have a production like this in the Demoscene too, especially as this is about as well done as one can reasonable expect. The real show here is in the execution, the details, the craftmanship. Aside from that it feels borderline hollow, even shallow maybe, but knowing the people behind this (and having talked about the motivations behind the intro) I know that's not really the case. I guess Vessel just falls a bit short for me in communicating something beyond the mundane for me. - rulezadded on the 2019-04-29 14:08:53
