- Trilkk: yeah that was the idea! :D I was surprised that many, maybe even most people didn't see it as an eye. Too abstract... But that is where it ends? To me the ending looks like the eye changes or blinks or mutates - maybe there are many eyes? Then we zoom into it.

- The key changes added a really nice touch that kept the music interesting. You could try to make the arps rhythmically more varied with a different rhythm pattern length than the rest of the stuff, like 7/8 over 4/4, though it will probably eat much more space. The bass and snare are too 4klangy, sounds of ripping cardboard. (I used to use stuff like that too until Noby's examples showed that you can do better - just don't settle for crap like the presets)

- Great stuff. The platform is a bit obscure though.

- I'm not the right person to talk about taste, but IMO the music should not have used the hideous drum sounds, which spoiled the minimalistic illusion. After that I re-considered the visuals as well and thought that the whole thing was just too long.

- Awesome tune! Love the sounds and the 3-over-4 polymetric bass. The visuals are a great music video for the tune. IMO this is what demos are all about artistically, aside from presenting new technical tricks.

- Thanks everyone for attending and watching and commenting, and thanks to Asm organizing for doing the compo once again! In case Windows + x86 remains a viable 1k platform in the future, and if someone wants to try a similar thing, here's the source code to Fire and Eyes: here: http://www.kameli.net/~yzi/fire_and_eyes_1k_source.zip
I know it could have been made better by spending a lot more time and having some sort of an artistic vision, but it was basically a compo filler and thanks to Assembly organizers and scene folks who are interested in this stuff. Whenever there's a compo, it's worth making an entry. I was happy with the sound and that there's some kind of a "story" in the visuals. If someone wants to see significantly better visuals in my prods, they'll need to send me better shaders! I'm not a visual artist, which should be clear after watching my prods. So, complaining about colors etc. is kind of pointless, it's like complaining about bad singing to a tone deaf person. Entries are what make a compo, and a compo with a couple of excellent prods and a dozen fillers is a hugely better experience than one with just the two excellent ones. - rulezadded on the 2020-10-18 18:15:43
