- demo Amiga AGA Serenity by Elude [web]
- i have a lot of love for this. nice flow, goes great with the soundtrack and i really like the first part. it's all done with style and taste.

- demo Windows Observatory by Cocoon [web]
- massive respect for the visual fidelity of this. in realtime at 1080p it looked so good - barely a pixel out of place (aside from a few minor temporal aa issues on the thin lines), it could be a render. the quality of the artwork / texturing, the materials and postfx is really excellent.
good work on the "smokebox" too - abused distance fields? :)
still, would be cool to move on from the robot arms and industrial/scifi sometime... ;) - rulezadded on the 2014-04-22 11:52:17

- 64k Windows the timeless by Mercury [web]
- a good 64k (in the current pond of really bad 64ks) - so well deserving of a big positive thumb.
but on the flip side, here's some objective criticism: bad direction, weak 3d scenes, dodgy lighting (whats up with your contact shadows/occlusion?), highly derivative content, nothing-concept (isnt it just random scenes?), slow, pretentious, bad framerate issues in places on a 680, some parts looking strangely low res (the city), dull soundtrack - all trying to hide behind a ridiculous amount of lens flare, huge glow and overshot dof.
the timesquare part works well though - probably because it plays to the strengths of the engine (i.e. tons of glow, and no lighting to worry about..).
i think ive said this about the last few mercury prods now but ill say it again - if mercury could direct, had good concepts and good scene content they could really deliver something special. as it is, it just always falls short of greatness. - rulezadded on the 2014-04-21 11:41:31
- demo Windows min by Loopit [web]
- the first scene is great, moving from inside to outside - was the best single part in any demo in the compo. the greetings scene is also really cool (.. shall we all lay that fracture plugin to rest now? :) ). its a shame the stuff in between is a bit "generic demo content" - if there was one or two more scenes of killer instead of filler it'd have walked the compo (for me anyway).

- demo Windows G - Level One by Ctrl-Alt-Test [web]
- strange, it was really good for the first 2 minutes, i really liked the whole flat shaded quad landscape flyby and how it worked with the track. but then everything - the visuals, the song, direction, ideas, everything - completely ran out of steam. the whole particle section felt dull & out of place, the "city" at the end just looked like a really generic load of greebled blocks. even the band seemed to run out of ideas. :|
shame, because the first half had style - really reminded me of a polygonised version of an old french music video i'm struggling to recall the name of. - isokadded on the 2014-04-07 08:29:50
- demo Linux Windows Secret Rooms
- the positive: big thumb up for a strong debut, and the sheer amount of effort involved. some of the scenes (particularly the 2d stuff) were nice, the music was great and the demo connected to it very well - it made sense with the visuals. the sync and transitions were really well done too - making seemingly random content fit together almost seamlessly (youve been taking notes from navis i see? ;) ). the effort involved is amazing, and by one person too! in a very weak pc scene field this stands out.
and the negative: very little in this demo actually looks good in isolation. the content itself is weak - rendering, modelling, animation, effects, camera work, colours, design, concept.. to go from here to a really good demo will need a shift of focus towards quality not quantity.
but this is still a great start! - rulezadded on the 2014-04-04 14:38:41

- demo Android Feed Me Lies by Fairlight [web]
- The youtube capture is the worst ever :( a fraction of the frame rate of real hw and decades out of sync, so don't judge with it.
