• "Illusion" is one of the early ZX Spectrum trackmos. It has virtually no graphics and is fully black and white, but the quality of its raster effects is still holding up even against the current generation of Spectrum demos. The design is distinctly kooky, but the effects are always fresh and the music is truly delightful.

• Given the resolution of the graphics in this demo, it is immediately clear that several effects here are absolutely top notch for an 8-bit platform. This includes the 16c raycaster and the parallax effect at the start. At the same time, the "modern" looks do not hide the fact that this is a very oldschool demo in heart. It does not care about the flow, the progression, or the culmination. It just presents a set of non-trivial solutions to specific technical challenges. Hence, it is easy to appreciate, but very hard to love. The only thing I truly love here is the amazing soundtrack.

• This is a lovely small demo with some striking art design (I particularly liked the parallax greetings). The music is also extremely good. To my mind, this is a very stylish way to wake up.

• This demo is decidedly unambitious, however, it does what it does extremely well and never overstays its welcome. Add to this a furious tempo, good soundtrack, clean graphics, a good sense of humour and unusual effect mixtures and you get a winner.

• Optimus, VNN was the principal coder on the majority of border-drawing prods made by AAA band. He had a stroke and died on 12th of September aged 57.

  The music is from the old Soviet movie "Bespridannitsa" (Girl with no Dowry, 1937). This is a fragment of the XIXth century Russian song "To ne veter vetku klonit" (It's Not the Wind that Bends the Branch; composed by A. Varlamov, lyrics by S. Stromilov). This is what the lyrics are saying:

• I think that it is really unfair to judge an innovative demo like this on the grounds of compatibility only, especially since the author implemented several secret screens and additional music tracks, which are only shown and played to people on incompatible platforms.
  
  Some of the effects here (like shifting vertical bars) may appear unappealing to people from other platforms, but synchronised drawing outside of the screen, on the border area, like this demo does in many effect transitions and effects, requires 1 to 4 cpu tacts precise instructions in every frame, including the effect codes, the music player, literally, everywhere. I can understand why some people do not like this style of effects, but the whole topic of design vs coding is just not very relevant here. Surely, this demo has both.

• It is not easy to reproduce just how lame the lyrics are. We are talking about stances that sound something like this:
  "I went into some fog, because I've got no choice, and while in there I stepped onto god knows what and then I heard a voice".
  Basically, that guy was running late for the demo party, took a short-cut through a fog and stepped onto a hedgehog. Hedgehog is unhappy and he tells the guy that one does not need to rush anywhere, thanks to wonders of online party translations.
