- musicdisk Commodore 64 re/store by Fairlight [web]
- great outfit.
but i did not like the musics except a bit for the second one. i think the first tune is the worst choice out of the pack to be made the first tune.
since this is a music pack i thumb it down. - sucksadded on the 2004-07-08 08:41:46
- demo Commodore 64 one moment of tecnikality %70 by Civitas [web]
- this was the quick'n dirty party release version. i wasn't gonna add it here before the 100% version. however it found its way to the internet anyway. so i might as well get reactions here.
wait for the more graphically rich 100% version. (not forever hopefully:)) - isokadded on the 2004-06-18 19:44:21

- fair enough...:) i am inline with your new post. than again i would like to say that i perceived the wording in "let's make a concept demo although we don't have anything to say, so we'll just whip up some half-assed scene poetry" sentence 'negatively stronger' than "What's dishonest about trying to make a good demo? I'm not saying Oswald is trying to fool us, I'm saying he was trying to use other means of making a good demo than his usual ones, and failed". and the first phrase sounds more agressive than jailbird's to me as well. that was my perception and i also felt personally adressed by that phrase since you earlier posted that plastic kiss reminded you of mist (which honours me by the way :) ). this was the reason of my post. i have nothing against your last post and agree on your view in there. i hope i could express myself clearly and will cause no misunderstandings.

- my i just jump in at this point to say a few words about my thoughts.
puterman and hollowman: with all due 'sincere' respect, i think labeling any demo as "let's make a concept demo although we don't have anything to say, so we'll just whip up some half-assed scene poetry" simply seems to imply that the authors of that demo are being dishonest. and labeling someone dishonest by looking at his/her demo is i think overconfidence in your ability to make observations and deductions. for this demo i shall repeat, i did not like the poetry and the wired graphics and i liked the vector code and some musics. but i don't think that is enough for me to say that oswald is trying to fool us all by making a concept demo when indeed he did not have anything to say.
in whatever product i think it is always fair to talk about how succesful you think the author has been in achieveing what he was set out to do. so i think it is fair to blame oswald (or me for mist) for not being able to create a coherent atmosphere in the demo and thus failing to make a good concept demo. but i think there is a difference between saying "hey this is an unsuccesful concept demo attempt" and saying "you are trying to sell a demo as a concept demo although you didn't have anything to say really.". i think the critisizers should make sure that their words won't imply a personal insult.
i do agree however that the amount of work put in something does not automatically make it good. nevertheless i personally appreciate hard work even if i do not appreciate the result. so i do think Lars spending 6 months for the drum sound is good (i think the drum sound is indeed the best thing about the black album :) ). but this particular subject is way too philosophical for me and is a matter of personal approach i think. - isokadded on the 2004-06-10 08:37:46

- what worries me is that only 15 reactions to a resource demo after so many years means that the c64 scene is practically dead and there are maybe only 20 or so of us left watching c64 demos :(
...just a thought - isokadded on the 2004-06-04 12:14:48

- a bit short. i liked the vectors. i didnot enjoy the poetry or the graphics. i think there are toooo many of those wired graphics. nice soundtrack. what i liked the best was the music in the note file.

- great coding. the asymetric zoomer and the 16 color plasme parts rule big time. also i am more clear about why cruzer doesn't do trackmos now :) but despite the slavework they require i still find them nicer to watch personally.

- quote hollowman:but trying to piece together and rescue this incoherent mix of effects(some are neat, some are not) and graphics, with scene poetry just doesnt cut it.
...hmm if you mean that you find an overall incoherency in the effects, gfx and concept, than it is a very valuable input for me(especially coming from you). this means i will have to improve on creating a more unified look to effects etc maybe...
... however if you mean that i took a bunch of effects than tried to tie them together and sell it as a concept demo, than...
1) it is an insult since it implies i am a dishonest person who relies on concepts as a marketing tool...
2) it is wrong... the only part i coded before i decided on the concept was the landscape.
i would like to think you didnot mean the second interpretation. - isokadded on the 2004-03-23 07:47:27
- demo Commodore 64 You Know The Routine by Camelot [web]
- impressive effects quality. but i don't see point of making it "press space" type. why not relaese it as 5 one file demos then. could have been a lot more impressive if it was a trackmo
