- demo Windows Legomania by Doomsday
- It's not like dsd have to prove they can code themselves... and in any case the lightwave sceneplayer plugin used to display the lego scenes is their own work.
Demopaja rocks, and so does this demo. Watching it on the bigscreen was a great experience...

- not all of d3d, but your device wrapper should be relatively easily ported to opengl.. :)

- it shows that there is more serious effort put into this intro than other dxm intros... some of the stuff actually looks good, and it has little to do with its predecessors in the misfit series... and I'm not saying this only because I had the strange experience of seeing stefan working on it.. saying things like "maybe I should adjust the colors a bit" or "maybe it will look better if i toggle the flashing of the top thingy and the bottom on" and fixing little details all the time... (this is a rare experience indeed compared to the usual one... "maybe I should just show random effects each frame?" or "fuck! The colors aren't 0xff00ff enough" ;)
Luckily, he was the same little obnoxius smartass as always, or I would have been REALLY worried... - isokadded on the 2003-08-13 03:28:04

- I was totally blown away seeing this at asm. I haven't seen it since, and maybe if I do I'll find some flaws and stuff to complain about... but it doesn't matter. Being impressed like that, looking around in the party hall, watching dropping jaws all around you... people screaming and applauding.. it's what demos are about... or at least should be.
About the speech debate... sure, I was disappointed... but still, I respect the guy for having the guts to do something he must have realized would be controversial.. as we can see here, there have been thoughts about it before and it took an intro using it to bring the discussion to the surface.
The blurring, transitions and lighting rocked.. if you don't agree, go watch fr-08 again instead... ;) - rulezadded on the 2003-08-12 18:25:53
- demo Windows schism by Noice [web]
- if there had been a single texture in this demo that would be at least a tiny bit hard to generate algorithmically, I would almost be convinced by the above arguments ;P
Normal maps (especially the kind you used for the tunnels and alien thingy) are a piece of cake to generate, and as far as cubemaps are concerned you would typically want them to reflect the environment they're placed in.. by rendering it to textures.
Btw, If I'm not mistaken, the mentioned tech demos tend to use photograph-based textures, which are arguably harder to generate than the fractal clouds you're using ;) - isokadded on the 2003-07-11 07:57:03

- come on. Noice _can_ do better than this. Better design, better transitions, better feeling. The face with the hair is indeed ugly, and some of the colors used in the demo are quite inconsistent. However, some of the effects kick ass... like the metastuff for instance...
If you had only taken a day or two to put all the stuff together, and given it some thought, this could have been a really good demo. Now it's just ok.... (but you did deserve to win :) - isokadded on the 2003-07-10 17:07:23
- demo Windows djonk by woorlic [web]
- plonch was far better... but it's really ok for a demo that someone started coding 7 hours _after_ deadline ;)

- demo Windows Exploding Teenage Emotions by Alpha Millenium Crew
- The song is by the drive-ins, whose bass-player is a friend of mine. I once showed him some demos, and he asked me if I could make a demo with one of their songs. So I did. It's as simple as that. There is no big artistic or technical ambition behind this, but it was fun to do.
This is a party version, and it doesn't restore the desktop resolution due to some obscure bug. We might release a final someday :)
