- demotool MS-Dos Windows Commodore 64 Amstrad CPC ZX Spectrum MSX LZSA
- I wrote both the LZ4 and ZX7 8086 decompressors and will definitely be looking this over. I am dubious that you've matched ZX7 ratios while simultaneously increasing decomp speed 60%, but I'll check it out, and would be happy to be proven wrong.

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Eon by The Black Lotus [web]
- What Sesse said. This is an amazing demo for working within full knowledge of the Amiga's limits instead of trying to break them. I know how nearly everything was done in the demo and I'm still incredibly impressed.
I look forward to an explanation of how the poly anims were compressed -- I'm guessing differential slices like we (and many others) did to eliminate overdraw. - rulezadded on the 2019-04-23 08:35:59
- demo BK-0010/11M Good Apple (Bad Apple remix) by SandS [web]
- @Manwe: Thanks for the tech explanation. 72 cycles to move memory is indeed harsh. And I wasn't criticizing, just trying to understand. You did a good job with the graphics hardware arrangement.
You implied a few things in your reply though:
Quote:Considering these facts, we are not able to simply stream 16 kb of screen data 30 times per second. So we developed a special codec.
That's not what 8088 Domination is doing -- I didn't have that kind of bandwidth either. I had to write a delta-optimized x86 compiler for that prod; see https://trixter.oldskool.org/2014/06/19/8088-domination-post-mortem-part-1/ for the post-mortem. And I didn't have redefinable character cells either...

I wonder how you fit everything into 20 Mb! What is your secret? ;)
It's delta-compressed, that's how. It's 20MB uncompressed including music, 12MB .zipped. - isokadded on the 2018-10-19 16:35:13
- demo BK-0010/11M Good Apple (Bad Apple remix) by SandS [web]
- Hard drive file is 131MB, readme.txt says two 32MB partitions, not sure which is right... but if the latter, 64MB for this anim and audio is a bit large, yes? 8088 Domination did something similar in 20 MB, and that was unpacked... Is this just a DMA transfer from the IDE hardware to the screen, with the CPU code spending most of its time on the covox replayer?

- demo Windows Fair play to the queen by Candela
- I still absolutely love this demo, partially because of how silly it is, but mostly because of the 100% exceptional music. If I ever de-make a demo, it will be this one.

- Special features of Waking Life

Not yet, might happen later.
How about now? I love that damn music! - isokadded on the 2018-05-04 06:43:37

- 256b MS-Dos My Fractal Broke by Hornet [web]
- Prod is 8088-compatible, performs fractional math, and uses CGA. If I had floating point and mode 13h it would have taken up less space.
