- Well, I did it. Hi-res version for DOSBox (with no sound) is now available! Use download link to get it.
Video is also attached to link section (you can watch it at 2x speed... however as others).

It seems to go unnoticed that this is 7 different color gradients with 32 shades each
Quote:I'll still try to make a 256-byte hires version, at least for DOSBox.That said, i think a bit more work has to be put in to make it count. Or, the 512b with a lot more features =)

- Surprisingly underrated work. I confidently expected that it would be the first (well, definitely in the top 3), but not 7th. This result is full sucks 👎
This prod is THE BEST. - rulezadded on the 2021-03-15 16:28:08

thumbs up nonetheless because mesmerizing
Initially I wanted to create hires intro. But it didn't fit in 256 bytes. However, after subsequent optimizations (which I made already with the mode 13h version), I think, it could. But I had no time for this anymore :(
I hope later I'll make 512b (or even 1k... or both) version for pure DOS in hires (probably up to FullHD/32bit). With double buffering (in XMS), write-combining. Maybe 3D, maybe with SIMD, maybe with new (more interesting) formula, maybe with keyboard control. With generative sound of course... And I'll think about colors too (I even have an idea about it already) :)
It's also interesting to create a version for Windows too. But it's better not to promise anything yet. I always want something more cool, but it need a lot of time.
Try to look at fast HLL-prototype in hires (800x600): click here.

IMO, the disadvantage of sizecoding, no matter how interesting this process is, is in greedy striving for a smaller (or a certain) size, sacrificing beauty and compatibility (especially if you do a work for pure DOS, not DOSBox). Therefore, I am all hands and feet for expanding the concept of sizecoding (if we talk about DOS) up to 1 Kb. This gives you more freedom and requires less size-wankering, while maintaining quite strict size requirements. For technical wow-effect, there are 32 and 64 (maybe 128) byte categories. Everything above this size just DO HAVE TO look not only pretty, but even wonderful or perfect (like Pyrit or Symetrie). Or technically incredible (like Bit Runner 2048 or memories). I think so. Of course, I am not so good at doing perfect prods yet :). Although HerbaKaif (however, there is not enough variety here) and Deep Trip look pretty good (but people like StarLine more somehow :D).
Take for example technically great new work of Gyroid by Rrrola. It's brilliant from a technical point of view. At the same time, it is quite beautiful. But imagine what it could be in 512 bytes (or at least 256). In hires, and even with sound!
And imagine how Chrome Revenge would look like (and sound like) if TomCat were limited to 256 bytes :) - isokadded on the 2021-03-15 16:01:41
