- demo MS-Dos Brother I can see the light by Immortals [web]
- I could have sworn I commented on this a long time ago... the music is awesome (I'm just now looking for it, since I can't find it at Modland). Don't remember the visuals, but I doubt they were terrible. I think this was one of the last demos I saw on my old laptop (with WinME and semi-real DOS) before it died on me.

- 64k Windows Terra Incognita by Brain Control [web]
- I downloaded the music first and thought "wow, this sounds like end credits music from a film" or some recap of dramatic themes... and now having seen the intro, it seems I was right, this thing is like a movie trailer. (and I *think* I could follow the plot too.)
That said, this intro seems to suffer from enormous space (and probably time) pressure; like 64kb isn't nearly enough to pull this off properly (in particular, the robots were... ugh.), and they didn't have enough time to synch the music or tighten the 'script'.
This could be an awesome demo.
Anyway, I really liked the warship chase thing, and the stargate. - rulezadded on the 2007-01-18 05:09:29

- musicdisk Commodore 64 10 Years HVSC by HVSC Crew [web]
- Being an American you'd think my English would be better than that. "and other familiar names that may or may not be retired now"
Ahem...
Oh, the Markus Schneider tune was also very nice. - isokadded on the 2006-12-01 07:34:18
- musicdisk Commodore 64 10 Years HVSC by HVSC Crew [web]
- The HVSC people seem to have an amazing talent for bringing musicians out of retirement. This thing has new tunes from Jeroen Tel, Markus Schneider, Adam Gilmore, Jan Krolzig, Chris Huelsbeck, Laxity/Vibrants/MoN... and other familiar names that may or may not be active musically until now (Cadaver, GRG...)
Granted, some of those were merely unreleased tunes from Way Back When, but still.
It's a pity the scrolltext is occasionally longer than the song itself...
Particularly a fan of 'Second Time' by Surgeon, "Metro Dance" by Huelsbeck and 'The Sissy Clown' by Xiny6581. - rulezadded on the 2006-12-01 07:30:43
- demotool Linux Windows ChibiTracker
- @Reduz:
Ah, got the skins working. It looks MUCH better now.
Also, as I discovered when creating my own quick test track, the xm in question DID load, Chibitracker just complained...
So I've tested it, and thanks to you pointing out all the function keys- and now I know that cut and paste DO work; they're just not set to ctrl-c and ctrl-v by default.
In case you're wondering I basically started learning how to track with Modplug Tracker so a lot of this isn't obvious to me because I never used IT. Well, a lot of stuff isn't obvious to me because I'm still a painful novice at composing in general... but anyway.
Latest bug (possibly real, possibly just an IT quirk): Tried to set the tempo by typing in the box on the variables tab; found out it had no effect, so I had to click the buttons (did not auto-repeat when I held the mouse button down, either). - isokadded on the 2006-11-29 05:21:57
- demotool Linux Windows ChibiTracker
- Just managed to get it to build on Linux (Xubuntu 6.10, needed to install libsdl-dev and scons to build) and it... well, it works, but looks like it was built with Motif (black, white, gray, and fugly).
It fails to load one of the .xm files I created with milkytracker (but that may not be its fault?). It also fails to load pretty much any MOD I throw at it. (and I doubt all of them are Ultimate Soundtracker/Noisetracker/StarTrekker/Fasttracker)
Biggest qualm at the moment: No option to follow the music (scroll down the patterns, move to new pattern) and no highighting either.
Second biggest qualm: No close button on any of the boxes. I'm now aware that you can just click somewhere else to close them, but it's a bit disconcerting.
On the plus side, the help menu listing what all the effects do is nice... for people like me who haven't memorized them.
Oh, and if it can create and save .it files it's already better than Cheesetracker, the IT clone in all the Linux repositories that's been at 0.99/possibly-player only since I started using Linux.
I will have a go at composing with this sooner or later- hopefully the IT interface makes more sense to me than the Fasttracker II interface. - rulezadded on the 2006-11-28 05:14:48
- musicdisk Windows Awakening by ALLien Senses [web]
- That was for Part 2. Oops.
Awakening Part 1: Same technical issues I posted above, about Part 2... It's clear that a lot of work was done on making samples sound realistic between Awakening and Awakening 2. The pictures seem to match a lot better than on Awakening 2 (except perhaps Gray Haven)
"Awakening" has an odd crescendo that goes nowhere (an edit?) and Gryphon has an out-of-tune horn- which is a shame because they've got pretty good melodies.
I'd say the best tunes are Dragon Rider and Arkansiss. My thumb is still warranted. - isokadded on the 2006-11-16 04:37:43
