- demo Windows fr-081: .frOzen by Farbrausch [web] & Rebels
- what a terrible mess. A best of "what to do to make your demo look more dated than a rusty amiga in your back garden".

- 64k Windows We Have Accidently Borrowed Your Votedisk by Razor 1911 [web]
- It's a strange one this one.
On one hand it is, probably, the best work from this incarnation of the Razor 1911 team so far. In my book, a major step forward in terms of the progression, colorscheme, music, postprocessing. My best bit is that texture on the cube and tunnel.
On the other hand I can't help but feel that it's once again the emperor's new clothes. Yeah yeah I know it has some chiptunes and bouncing donuts and stuff. It makes you happy and reminds you of your childhood years when you were playing Cronologia by Cascada on your 386sx; time flies doesn't it...
For a really good demo based on the "oldskool for the new generation" audience, check Sota 2004 64k invitation by equinox. Now that's something...

- demo Windows spheres on a plane by Dead Roman
- clearly for me the second best demo of the compo (after fairlight & cncd). It doesn't show much but what's there is of the highest quality.
A lot of influence from vimeo videos I imagine? not a bad thing though... - rulezadded on the 2011-04-24 12:08:05
- 80k Windows Pirates of the 777 seas by Razor 1911 [web]
- sure, and this is not, by any stretch of imagination, an attack on you, or your group, but rather an honest, personal review of the production itself, taking into account the genre and target audience.
I just believe that the production fails to deliver even on the fun and cheerful level. However it is not "thumb down" material, mainly because it is unassuming and easy-going. - isokadded on the 2011-01-10 11:44:21
- 80k Windows Pirates of the 777 seas by Razor 1911 [web]
- It has nothing to do with using shaders or clever blend modes or whatever. It is just that the end result looks like another attempt to mimick the "look" and "feel" of amiga/old pcs without adding a single new element to the "genre" (a genre which I personally find tired and irrelevant - do oldschool on oldschool hardware). In my opinion, even those few elements that compose this demo are not of a very good standard - the presence of 3-4 different font types on at the same time, the boring repetition of the same effect over and over again, the forgetable music and that hideous AmigaDos frame (yawn). I actually liked the pirate sprite.
Obsoleet by Voodoo unreal, for example, was a nostalgia demo that was 10 times more original, fresh and enjoyable than this. Yet it was thumbed down for "milking the nostalgia cow".
Some times the pouet thumbs go in mysterious

- demo Windows fr-063: Magellan by Farbrausch [web]
- First of all one needs to applaude your courage and persistence with making demos that still inspire and raise the bar. Technically this is one of the best and could have won any major party.
I'm afraid I didn't like it. It is one of those demos that I think have no purpose. I had the same issue with Rove. Maybe it is the blandness of the music, it just goes nowhere. I also didn't like the static surroundings: it reminds me of old 3Dmarks - the cliched space themes, little lighting, no shadows.
I think that it would work better if it was a purely effect driven presentation, much like those from mfx/kewlers; without any pretent of a scenario, that, in my opinion, fails (or isn't of equal quality to the rest).

- 80k Windows Pirates of the 777 seas by Razor 1911 [web]
- I'll never understand why this style is SO overrated. Effectively a OSDM with RGB coder colors and "my first opengl program" blending modes. ASCII art mixed with pulsating 3d graphics !? Yack !
Would have been lovely in 1994 though... - isokadded on the 2011-01-09 11:58:06
- demo Windows fr-063: Magellan by Farbrausch [web]
- chaos: yes sorry I meant that part where the object looks almost solid (like it is made out of gelly). I was wondering if it is still SPH or something else (actually, come to think of it, I bet that the SPH and cloth maths have very many similarities, in effect they both propagate and dessipate energy from atom to neighbouring atom).

- how do these things work anyway... is it a connect-26 spring-mass-damper network?
