- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Odyssey by Alcatraz [web]
- I finally found a copy of this (http://www5.oxedion.com/index.php/download/d15d120173d28738ff0a3ee1d2b54d6a) and I think I can see how this probably won TP 91.
While it doesn't have as good a soundtrack as Hardwired or quite as clever effects, it does have a massive (if badly spelled and cliche) story behind it, and an immense quantity of 3D scenes, all nicely wrapped up together.
I say quantity because it looks lousy today, but then again it constantly and consistently puts those first few scenes of 'Desert Dream' to shame. A LOT of work went into the animation here, and their code manages to squeeze out a decent space battle. If anything, this demo was a bit too ambitious.
I'm guessing at least part of the reason this demo is so slow (and so long) is because of the time it spends reading from the disk...
It seems like a compliation of cutscenes from what might have been an awesome adventure game back in the day.
Is Hardwired a better demo? Probably. But this is not bad. - isokadded on the 2007-05-01 05:21:02

- demo Windows Only Kings And Better by Fairlight [web] & The Silents [web]
- I liked this, and I like its soundtrack a lot. I also thought I voted for it long ago, but never mind.

- demo Windows fr-041: debris. by Farbrausch [web]
- So I watched it thinking about how much it reminded me of various parts of Spiderman 2 (the generic subway bridge) and then the cube exploded.
Wow.
Beautiful AND a technological wonder.
I think I'm going to judge my new computer's graphics card based on whether or not it can run this demo at full speed.
Seriously... cities have been done before in similarly small sizes (Fairlight had a pretty good one in "Dead Ringer", though this even beats Smash Designs' "Weltenkonstrukt") but none to this level of detail, and none with a deforming/exploding demo engine. We've come a long way since "Rise!" by Mindforce&Park (which was cool).
Only weak parts were
1.) The music
2.) The shadows (or perhaps just the ones on Slashy's Hirez video) weren't entirely consistent for some reason- some of the pipes didn't look 3D...
3.) Much too short!
Did I mention I love the gigantic explosions? I assumed those were too difficult to do in any way approaching realism. - rulezadded on the 2007-04-10 03:51:26

- Enjoyable, more interesting than I was afraid it would be given it's just lines, and works on linux!

- Yeah, my screenshotting skills suck. Thumbs up for Linux support, thumbs down for the music and effects.

- Hooray for Linux support (AND it worked on my computer!)... but there's just... well, it stirred nothing in me.

- demo Commodore 64 Desert Dream by Resource [web] & Chorus
- I've seen several remakes and updates of Desert Dream, but none as complete or accurate as this. A nice piece of work, to get it to look exactly the same.

- @Shane: I'm guessing (given the Guru Meditation Error) it's supposed to look like an Amiga in 32-color mode or something.

- demo Windows Pure 1D demo
- You do realize the demo is technically 2D, since it has a time dimension, right?
This was *way* more interesting than I thought it would be... the only things I didn't see were the obvious ones, the parallax scroller (in 1D) or the 2001: A Space Odyssey style slitscan move. - rulezadded on the 2007-02-10 02:09:28
